Connie Coyne, who has filled the position for the past seven years, will be leaving us as of March 26th.
Connie has been so much a part of the newsroom for the past 16 years it is hard to imagine it without her. She has been a strong voice for readers and a defender of good journalism. When readers are mad or glad she's made it known and helped us respond appropriately. She was the force behind redefining our Professional Guidelines booklet, she has coordinated contest entries on our behalf, she has been tour-guide extraordinaire, and liaison to interns, students and to schools, colleges and universities. Before she became Reader Advocate she was weekend editor.
I know she has been a mentor and support to many of us and we will miss her for that as well. It will be difficult to fill the vacuum she leaves but to temper the sadness we feel, she says she will be available for freelance and temp work. We plan to take her up on that.
We will want to toast her at a newsroom gathering if she is willing. Tim and Madison will get back to us with details on that.
And Connie, I think I speak for everyone when I say thank you for your service to The Salt Lake Tribune -- and to our readers --and to each of us individually.
