Third FedCom Reformation

The FedCom central government has recently undergone a fundamental transition, which has resulted in the dismissal of the ruling National Congress. This action is justified by the realization that the nation is still too small to properly support a fully democratic government; that a smaller, more direct government would be better suited for FedCom's immediate purposes.

The nation remains a federal commonwealth, but the plans for a new constitutional democracy (which would be exercised through the still-incomplete Articles of Foundation) have been placed on hold, and will not be examined again until FedCom has achieved de facto sovereignty. At this point, the new government has announced it will dissolve itself and allow the population of the nation to finish what the defunct National Congress was originally meant to do.

The nation's original founder has collected most of the power of government, and has split it into a number of separate but equal ministries, radically shrinking the over-sized former government in the process. FedCom is now ruled directly by a small Council of Ministers, which is headed by the nation's original founder. Each ministry now exerts direct control over the vital functions of government and society. Members of the Council vote on legislation and important national issues, while the founder can issue his own Executive Orders, which are being used in lieu of a written constitution.

The government is now capable of rapidly adapting to changing situations. It's first order of business is to establish a proper legal code and a list of inviolable rights for all citizens...

A new Media Company has been set up by the Hammish King Lewis to compete with other News companies such as MilleniumNews and also the Hammish Advertiser. The company is expected to set up the paper "Hamland Today" along side "The Micronationalist" which will exist as privately owned news blogs.

The Hammish Advertiser is expected to remain nationalised and it's role in the Hammish community will be secured by allowing more input by the Hammish Public.

This also stems the start of the Hammish economy, with RNB expected to receive a competitor thus signalling the start of a new economic boom.

The Hammish Parliament has recently been filled with Constitutional debate, which has led into a reformist group and more conservative group emerging, with the HNP oddly switching sides to the Conservative side.

The New constitution was originally passed with the support of the HNP, but the constitution is now being reconsidered by the King who is now more in favour of a British Style constitution and less restriction on the direction of government.

The changes the constitution has already made has resulted in an election for speaker of the house of Commons, with CJMiller standing against the King.

In other news the dissolution of parliament is expected to take place on the 7th of February in time for a general election which has been delayed due to constitutional debate.

The new situation shows a change in Hamland's power structure away from the original HNP supporters. The new reformist group appears to be taking more power from the King and the HNP are now supporting the King's powers to be bolstered as a check and balance.

It is expected that the general election will decide the direction of the nation over the next 4 years. (4 months irl)

In other news, CJ Miller of Kanto negotiated a treaty, joined, got land, inspired a cheesy song, and then left all in the space of a few days. The Small Commonwealth is analyzing its economy. Kildare's getting pretty active again but Mom never trusts me enough to report on their stuff and always gives all their news for me like I'm still a sapling or something. Oh, and Harvey Steffke is still looking for people for a new Diplomacy game. Come on, guys.

PONTES NOVI, IMPERIUM INCOGNITA - Veteran micronational news site and portal MNN celebrates its 8th anniversary today.

Founded in the legendary Barony of Treesia and Fabon on 28th January 2002, MNN has arguably become a much-valued source of news and information about micronations, and has operated continously (apart from a week's interruption in late 2008) ever since.

While it no longer has its own forum (archived here), it has expanded its listings of micronational resources and its news coverage, which, as well as blogs and journals, now includes tweets and videos. To celebrate its anniversary, MNN now has its own Twitter and mobile sites, plus a new look and logo, and a slightly revised name, the Micronations News Network, which replaces its previous twin names of Micronational News Network (for the news) and Micronations.Net (for the site).

We at the Apollo Fireball V congratulate MNN on its anniversary and wish it many more years of success.

New Constitution, New activity, New Election Looming

The Hammish Parliament has been the centre of various reforms over the last few weeks. At the Center of this has been Helene Cosko-Nevrio, who has been working hard to get these reforms pushed through.

The New Constitution contains more real regulations than the old which was mainly moralistic and ceremonial. The Constitution has taken more power from the King and given more to the Parliament, which is interesting as the HNP's position has changed on this and they have been trying to give more to the King recently.

Cosko-Nevrio hasn't become a member of a party yet, but the acts proposed are bound to reflect well on her at the next election which is looming when all the acts in parliament has passed.

NOTHING, GRALUS - The magical kingdom of Gralus mysteriously disappeared earlier today, leaving kings, wizards and warlocks everywhere feeling slightly miffed and tentatively apprehensive. The last time it disappeared was due to an elaborate roleplayed conflict.

However, this time the last known sign of life that we had was receipt of a private message earlier this afternoon. By the time we went to open it, the entire nation had been replaced by a seemingly innocent-looking holding page.

Have Gralus' adventures in magic gone too far this time, or is there a more mundane explanation lurking in the shadows?

Only time will tell...

Despite Kaiser Leto III reversing his controversial decree, the flag issue continues to be the talk of Shireroth. A poll suggests over 80% of Shirerithians want a change - but with Greg and Shyriath coming back to state their opposition to the idea, those numbers may be heading downward. Meanwhile, the pro-change camp has started soliciting designs for either clean-ups of the present flag or completely new ideas. At some point, people will vote for their favorite, and the Landsraad will debate whether or not to accept it.

In what may or may not be a related development, national founder and Small Commonwealth Primate Erik Mortis has taken an indefinite leave of absence. Harvey Steffke will be succeeding him as Primate until a new leader can be elected. Shirerithians are wondering whether this is his way of punishing them for the proposed flag change, and discussing what to do. But in happier news, old and beloved citizens Bill3000 and Shyriath Bukolos have returned, and there is much rejoicing.

The Treaty of High Probability of Destroying Something Important officially cedes Straylight to Yardistan, which has celebrated by going steampunk and getting all upset about its forum color. A new Color Rebellion, anyone? Finally, and most importantly, a brief national conflict over a test poll ended with the Steward decreeing Option One. Sorry, Malliki, but the gods outrank you. OPTION TWO! MALARBOR DEMANDS IT!

January 8th is Emperor Norton Day, and you all know what that means: the Fnords, an intermicronational awards ceremony celebrating top micronationalists from the previous year. I and the rest of the pantheon congratulate this year's Shirerithian winners: Erik Mortis (Ideas and Economics), Ari Rahikkala (Ideas), Andreas the Wise (Economics), and Isabelle Allot (Most Promising New Micronationalist). We also congratulate those Shirerithians who won awards for their work outside Shireroth, including Maksym Hadjimehmetov (Journalism) and Aryeztur Mejorkhor (Culture).

Shireroth is suffering from two internal wars right now. Over in Straylight, a coalition of Pohjanvlke and C.O.S.A.C. forces lead a doomed fight to preserve independence from Yardistan, with whom Straylight is fated to merge on Oustfest (collateral damage: Corey). And on the mainland, Dolor's constant low-grade rebellion has turned dead serious as a protest against the Kaiser's stunning (but now revoked) decree to change the flag - the Rebel Earldom has been joined by Goldshire and has broad Landsraad support.

e u prtes Sxires? Probably not, since the language is still in development, but Shireroth is nevertheless excited at the prospect of Nick designing a language for us. Hyperborean Ice-Demon Freezes Ireland

HYPERBOREA, SHIREROTH - It seems that, when you are researching micronational myths and legends, it may not be best to speak aloud the name of any sensitive deities or demons, just in case they see it as open invitation to wreak havoc shortly afterwards.

This unfortunate sequence of events occurred last week, apparently as a consequence of a meeting between two Hyperboreans, Scott of Hyperborea and Eoin Dornan, which took place somewhere is deepest, darkest Ireland.

It has been admitted that, during the meeting, the name of Jogri Temyyyutsion, King of the Ice-Demons, was forgetfully spoken aloud in place of his safer winter pseudonym "Oin Suilar", which was effectively an invitation for him to expand his "icy reign" across the seas to all of Ireland.

Banishment of the Ice-Demon may prove to be troublesome, as the only potential rituals are to be found in the legendary "Cold Rain Book", which itself has proven to be entirely imaginary.

In the meantime, climate experts have warned that the anticipated duration of the supernatural freeze of "three times three times three days" may prove to be rather optimistic.

2009 was a year of changes and consolidation. It saw the end of Babkha, a micronation that served as a pillar of our sector since before the MCS even existed. It saw the end of the hated MicroHub, which for all of its flaws served as a continuation of the MNN tradition and one of our last links to the larger micronational world. It saw the organization of large chunks of the world into the Small Commonwealth and its Small Economy, which have escaped the pitfalls of so many other organizations by expecting less.

And thus commenced the 2009 FNORD Awards earlier this evening, hosted by its eponymous and erstwhile founder, Scott of Hyperborea.

The awards, held, as ever, in honour of Emperor Norton Day and inspired by Molossia's original Norton Awards, were judged this year by Bjorn Ironfist of Stormark, Ryan Caruso of Shireroth, Emperor Edgard of Alexandria, and Guido Zambelis of Lovely.

Hamland's fall in activity over the last few months can be put down to a number of factors, the new King being inactive and enjoying another side to state life, a time of inactivity surrounding the end of a hard conflict on Keltia and others. But the nation seems to have been sparked all of a sudden making way for the new year.

(OOC: King Lewis had quit the MCS side of Micronations and went to uni, I think everyone else had a lot of work)

The new bounce back follows the Inactivity act putting the state under Royal Control until activity recovered, from nowhere it did and now Hamland finds itself preparing for an early year election.

The HNP are expected to follow up their more conservative tone with some more moderate and Nationalist policies as well as keeping their fiscally left wing approach to micronational economics. With the new more moderate and centrist angle the HNP hopes to change policy direction so that they can pick up more of the right wing of Hamland's vote. The Nationalists are expected to focus on national pride and cultural development as their campaign kicks off.

The Lib Dems are yet to start their campaign but are expected to take their Fiscally right and republican agenda forward as CJ Miller hopes to become the new Prime Minister.

In an interview with the new King, Lewis said "I want to take a more back seat approach, the position of Esezo has gone and we see a return to the way things were back when we were a prosperous country. We've had our ups and downs and I think we're ready to become a secure and mature country now. I personally will not be taking part in much of the international affairs anymore as I shall keep to the word of my predecessor however I think there has been a change of heart since then and I think we are ready to move on from that situation.

Things have been busy for me, and I hope that Hamland can return to it's former glory as I begin to have a bit of a break from it all."

When asked about the HNP's new rhetoric he said "I think it's a change for the better. We know who we are representing now as the National Party, we've governed for a long time and I think we need to be looking to apply what we've learned.

Hamland under the new Nationals is probably going to be a bit different, more is going to be focussed on Hamland and our foreign policy agenda will be taking more of a back seat role than before. The shift will go towards more of a cultural feeling and I want Hamland to be more of a community rather than a battlefield."

Does it feel like the 11th century ASC to anyone else here? Shireroth is annexing places left and right; after our successful absorption of Hawshire, the Landsraad is now debating extending Territory status to Hurmu, legendary Lyrican land of lakes. Adding to the historical atmosphere, Arvidur has been investigating the Shirerithian monarchy, and Malliki has made the dynastic list into a spreadsheet.

Three new Dukes earn their coronets this week. Aryeztur replaces Yvain as Duke of Goldshire, Daniel "Ric" Llai replaces Malliki as Duke of Brookshire, and Scott replaces Ari as Duke of Straylight, which may soon get absorbed by Yardistan. It's so hard to keep track of nobility these days, so be sure to help our new citizens - for example, Bjorn Ironfist, who joined last Ifniday and is on track for a County-level position in Elwynn.

Outside our sacred soil, a few glints of line shine out of the general barbarism of the foreign world. The MCS is once again hosting their yearly Fnord awards ceremony, so get over there and nominate anyone you think deserves international recognition. Antica hotly debates joining the Commonwealth, and the Commonwealth itself debates electing a new Secundus to replace the Kaiserified Jonas (Shirekeep bookies are offering 5:1 odds on Harvey).

One of the two Diplomacy games winds down, with Scott (England) and the Mayer brothers (Turkey) tying for first, and Italy getting honorable mention. The second continues, but needs a new France - will you take up the Gallic cause? What's next? Shireroth monopoly? The coronation was met with popular accolade except for the minor detail of the attempt by Earl of Dolor, now rebelling against the fourth consecutive Kaiser, to assassinate the fresh ruler. Aside that, Leto is off to a flying start on his reign, having already declared himself above grammar and promised a trip through the Republic where each Duke is expected to submit a list of places for him to visit.

Both of our new citizens have earlier micronational experience and seem to be settling in excellently, however, the behaviour of the MiniImNat has been called into question for what seems to some like overly pushy advertising of the minister's home duchy. All of Shireroth and the broader micronational world joined together over the past few days to commemorate Lady Carol's passing. Stormark held a farewell service for Lady Carol. Shireroth received welcome good news with the immigration or re-immigration of three new citizens this week: Tristan, Maksym (yes, that Maksym), and Eoin (yes, that Eoin). We welcome them to Goldshire, Brookshire, and Elwynn respectively. Yvain is now Duke of Goldshire and Erik is now Earl of Dolor (but why would he want to be?)

Shireroth broke a rather long dry spell in the annexation department with our peaceful absorption of the Hawshire-Dura Protectorate. Glory to Kaiser Aurangzeb, who has extended Shirerithian sovereignty all the way to the northern shores of the northernmost shores of Hyperion Bay, and who has seemingly won a war of attrition against the rebels.

Elsewhere in Shireroth: Jacobus Loki celebrates his return with some hot air about climate change, Spangle's Advent Calendar continues ticking off the days until Christmas, both Diplomacy games reach 1903 (although one's missing an Italy and the other a France), and hip-hop fans are raving about some sort of Notarious M'Jiliad Master.

Last year it was unofficially observed to mark the restoration of the county of Smjorkr in Shireroth, a place where Dozan Bovinism successfully sought refuge during the period known as the Natopian Dark Ages.

At Cowmas, the faithful are expected to offer a sacrifical dairy product to the Butter Spirit, with a glass of milk generally being favoured. His Holiness, Nathan, Pentheros of the Dozan Bovic Church, said:

The slightly mundane title disguises some fundamental changes that affect both nations. Verac relocates completely from Istvanistan Island across the world to a vacant area adjacent Gralus (although one that has been occupied by many different nations in previous years), while donating its former territory to neighbouring Istvanistan.

It is with deep sadness that we have to announce the sad news of the death of our beloved Prince George I of Seborga.

His Highness died this Wednesday morning, 25 November, at the age of 73 after a long illness.

The news of his death has shocked many friends and sympathizers of his cause around the world and expressions of solidarity and condolences are beginning to arrive in Seborga, at the local authorities and at the diplomatic posts of the Principality around the world.

Giorgio I of Seborga was declared Prince in 1963 and re-elected in 1995 by the citizens of Seborga, which for years has fought for the vindication of the independence of the Principality.

Diplomacy and the Landsraad

Shireroth has caught Backstab Fever with the beginning of not one but two games of Non-Micronational Diplomacy. Ari's Game, between Scott, Harvey, Icebreaker, Ryan, Ardashir, Andreas, and Malliki; and Icebreaker's Game, between Braden, Leo, Artz, Chris, Max, Corey, and Allot. Go watch the intrigue, cheer on your favorite players, and place bets on the outcome.

There was a bit of a scuffle between the Kaiser and Landsraad, when the Kaiser rejected the Landsraad's recommendation for changes in the Honors system. Although the Kaiser eventually implemented many of the recommendations, it was not before a lively debate on the Kaiserial veto. The issue led to a bill to bar the Kaiser from the Landsraad, and a judicial analysis determining this to be constitutionally impossible. Also getting barred from the Landsraad: Leo Dine, who contrary to explicit Shirerithian legislative procedure always votes "Baaaaaaa".

More importantly, the Landsraad is fundamentally restructuring its membership in perhaps the greatest upheaval in Shirerithian government since the Great Consolidation. The bill, surprisingly proposed by the usually conservative Erik Mortis, would allow Dukes to distribute Landsraad votes to lesser nobles in their Duchy, and is a continuation of recent legislation de-establishing Baronies at the Imperial level. It's an exciting time for internal Duchy government!

I, Nathan, am one of the three original founders of the Bovic Empire of Natopia.

Introducing Natopia

In August 2002, my friends and I were bored during a new student orientation for high school, and we doodled an imaginary city on the back of a hand-out. The city floated on clouds and had advanced aerospace technology. It also had a unique fascist totalitarian eugenics regime that executed "undesirables", and presidential succession was achieved officially through assassination. However the more micronation-like Natopia was set up in September. I did this because I had a lot of time on my hands and I really enjoyed playing SimCity.

Natopia was first all off-line. Classmates were given ranks and titles and even formed rival nations. The World Domination Society (WDS) and Emilyland were Natopia's first enemies, but the WDS eventually became an ally in our war against gravity. Natopia was a novelty that was a bit of fun for imaginative freshmen. The first Natopia Day, August 23, 2003, was even celebrated with a real life party with upwards of 15 people attending to celebrate Natopia.

The Inspirations

The idea for Natopia came from many different places. Mostly from classes in school that I'm taking. Early inspirations included the American government for the original Republic during freshman year civics class. The Holy Roman Empire was a basis for the first incarnation of the Sovereign Natopian Empire during a medieval history class. Athlon was first based on a Crusader State culture, but then evolved into a Greek themed culture after I took a Greek art class in college. The new Bovic religion taking root in Hazelwood is based on voodoo after curating an exhibit on Haitian voodoo. Natopia has had so many constitutions we can hardly be called a stable nation! Each new one changed when I had a new whim to fulfill. It has been rewritten so many times - many different parts came together to form what we have now.

A fun, yet important part of Natopia is The Ministry of Silly Walks. It was created when Natopia adopted an economy. Due to the technology, the government held all the money and distributed it out via salaries. Not all citizens held government jobs, so to get the money to the people, I set up the Ministry as a type of welfare system. Basically free money and a little bit of cultural development. Another part of fun part of Natopia is the Natopian Institute for the Promotion of Primate Literature, or NIPPL. It is the "citizens only" discussion forum. Matt Ziff came up with the idea of a Natopian institution to research the "infinite monkey theorem." However, another citizen, Tom Mills, devised the scandalously appropriate acronym.

The Butter Cow

The Butter Cow religion came about from the Natopia Day tradition to have a party "in real life." After the parties declined in popularity, and due to the nearness of dates, I took some friends to the Springfield Illinois State Fair and they always have a Butter Cow sculpture. Because it was an "official" Natopia Day outing, the Butter Cow was adopted as a mascot for Natopia in the same way Malarbor is the mascot for Shireroth. Butter Cow continued as a news mascot until, because of a constitutional crisis, Natopia collapsed. Athlon seceded from Natopia and adopted the Butter Cow as a divinity to bridge the cultural gap and declare itself the successor to Natopia.

When Natopia was reformed and annexed Athlon back, the Butter Cow religion came to the forefront of Natopia and was organized into a Catholic-style hierarchy as the Dozan Bovic Church. With myself as leader of both the church and Natopia, soon I fused the church with the state, which violated the many years of official Natopian secularization.

Citizens

New citizens of Natopia appeared somewhat sporadically. I never really "got" people to join - perhaps one of the problems with long term activity. People just sort of trickled in - some from other nations, others from out of nowhere (of course those people just could have been using fake names). I've made it a personal policy to not kick anyone out of Natopia, but there have been some I've wanted to.

Development

Natopia progressed most quickly in the very early days with Tasneem, Ryan and myself. Since Tasneem and Ryan were my friends in real life but lived too far away to hang out with, Natopia became our primary forum of communication and thus an explosion of Natopian culture. The Free Juice and Bagels Party and the legislative Frenzy are legacies of this time.

Natopia was never really a success per se. I don't really know, it was just kind of a general plateau of existing. I always remember that every time Natopia slows down to a crawl, within a month activity always picks up. If it didn't we wouldn't have been here for seven years.

Dark Ages and the Restoration

After Natopia slowed, restoring it was really a no-brainer. It had been a part of my life for so long and I was still involved in micronations, so there was no reason to not restore it. Allowing it to collapse and have Athlon and South Mehlville secede provided a very interesting historical element, however, and Natopian history fully embraces the collapse, calling it the Dark Ages, which I think adds a sense of realism to the nation.

Diplomacy and Culture

When Natopia was first settling into the Micras sector, I wanted Natopia very diplomatically involved. However as time went on I had less time to keep up with other nations, and the nations that Natopia was closely involved with closed up shop.

Our dealings with the MCS have always been favorable. In the past, we have had many comments by other nations, and I need to say that I fully endorse being called not serious but awesome. I allowed Natopian culture to grow naturally, instead of imposing a "cookie cutter culture" on it such as German, Roman, English, etc. When the population was mainly teenagers, the culture developed into that "immature" track. We have one of the most unique cultures out there and I would rather have Natopia's awesome unseriousness over way too serious with a lot of activity.

Favorite Things

I really enjoyed some special parts of Natopia. My favorite Natopia was Tasneem. She was one of the very first to join in high school and stayed for several years. During some of the slower times when I considered ending Natopia or annexing it to another nation, she always kept me on track and kept Natopia independent. It was a sad day when she left - she brought many good times to Natopia. Tasneem is now happily married and graduating from Michigan State this upcoming spring.

My favorite time was the one successful Summer Arts Festival we had. We had participants from several nations and filled the Library with some really nice works of art and literature, something I have always fancied being one of Natopia's strong points. A lot of Natopias own citizens have work submitted to the library through this day including Monkey Wrench, a one-act play by a former citizen, Zechariahs Azilin (Z).

Abdication and a New Emperor

Recently, the throne of Natopia was abdicated and my friend Konrad V Z (kvz) has taken over. He was crowned on October 10th, 2009. Why would I give up my throne of seven years strong? Simple answer: no time any more because of grad school.

By abdicating and showing that I am willing to let someone else shape and guide Natopia, perhaps it will encourage immigration. Natopia is, after all, named after me. It might not encourage people to join and think they can implement their own ideas. Konrad was chosen as my successor because he has acted as my Regent for many years and has been an extremely loyal and dependable citizen. He has been active and involved in Natopia long enough that I trust him with something I have spent nearly one third of my life on.

And Finally

Natopia will go forward, as it always does. With a change in leadership and the return of valued old citizens, I have high expectations for it, and I hope that soon Natopia can blossom into the active and powerful nation it deserves to be.

Istvanistan Wins Controversial MCS Appeal

MCS - The Republic of Istvanistan has won a controversial appeal for the MCS to restore its long-standing claim on the Micras world map, following its equally controversial removal last month.

The removal of Istvanistan from the map was apparently instigated by Dr. Spangle, who "forced" long-absent Istvanistani veteran Ari Rahikkhala to submit a claim for its removal on the grounds that it had been dead for four years.

What had been rather carelessly overlooked, though, was that Dr. Spangle's very own Ultimate Micronational Forumlist clearly showed otherwise, although anyone could presumably have briefly checked Istvanistan's forum instead.

At the beginning of this month, the Republic's recently appointed Minister of Foreign Annoyances and Envoy to the MCS, George W. Seagull, submitted an appeal against the removal, and stood steadfastly in the face of unreasonable offers for Istvanistan to meet additional conditions before its rightful position was restored.

The MCS Council eventually accepted the appeal just over a week ago, and we are now tentatively awaiting the next edition of the map to be published with Istvanistan restored.

Babkha: The Road Ahead

ROYAL SHAHYIAR PALACE, BABKHA - Babkha's new Shah announced his vision for an ongoing Babkha today. Remarkably, his vision looks like many visions that have gone before, when Babkha was officially a micronation, including such time-honoured traditions as a constitutional convention, an updated website, subdivision restructuring, meetups and recruitment.

Of course, Babkha is now officially a micronation-that-isn't-but-is -really, as it is still referred to as a kingdom while also being a Villainous Order. Confusing, no? Perhaps they should have just made their government the Villainous Order instead of the entire Kingdom. After all, that name could probably be applied to a few real-world governments as well.

A New Shah for Babkha

ROYAL SHAHYIAR PALACE, BABKHA - The Kingdom of Babkha has a new Shah, with former incumbent Hesam Jahandar having abdicated in favour of Sfeir Namvari. The act was accomplished by the issuing of a traditionally long-winded farman.

Babkha is still suffering from an indentity crisis, following its transformation into the rather cumbersomely-named Villainous Order of Babkhan Blackfriars, while still retaining the trappings and institutions of an autocratic micronational kingdom, but not enough to convince the Babkhans against withdrawing their membership of the MCS.

However, from now on, Hesam Jahandar will be known as the Emir of Sajin, while Shah Namvari will be known as Cyrus Namvari Shahanshah.

2010 Micronational Olympics to be Hosted by DeWaCo Estates

MCS - It has been announced on the MCS board that the 2010 Micronational Olympics will be held by the Imperium of the DeWaCo Estates, although dates and events have yet to be established.

The Micronational Olympics were founded by the Republic of Molossia in 2000 and have been held every two years since.

Hyperborea to Secede from Shireroth?

SHIREKEEP, SHIREROTH - In an unexpected turn of events, a three-way battle has broken out in Shireroth's Imperial Judex over the future of the County of Hyperborea. Hyperborea was annexed to Shireroth in May 2002, but earlier today, it was revealed that it was suddenly no longer a subdivision of Shireroth (along with Yardistan) by Scott of Hyperborea, in his response to a case brought by Steward Malliki Tosha against an allegedly illegal alliance between Hyperborea and Yardistan.

Steward Tosha was subsequently obliged to drop that case after he then submitted a new case against Scott of Hyperborea for treason as secession is illegal. The latter then responded with a counter-case against the Steward for an allegedly illegal alliance between Tosha's own Duchy of Brookshire and Harvey Steffke's newly recreated Duchy of Goldshire.

Although a number of historical records from the first half of 2002 no longer exist, the Hyperborean Incorporation Act is still intact. Unfortunately, following the fashion of that time, it consisted of a single unqualified line:

The former Tymarian state of Hyperborea will be incorporated into the Duchy of Elwynn.

Arbiter Leo Dine, Duke of Elwynn, called the situation an "ordeal" and decided to adjourn both cases until tomorrow in order that a single, unified, case can be prepared.

The Last Day of Geocities!

KHAAAAAAAAN! The Khan of Vijayanagara was crowned Aurangzeb I, 44th Kaiser of Shireroth on Wednesday, taking over from Gaelen III after the latter's abdication. Brookshire, Goldshire, and Elwynn have already officially sworn allegiance to the new Kaiser; Yardistan, Hyperborea, and Monty Crisco have already announced their rebellion. While many are still hoping for a peaceful solution, they are looking nervously at the prophecy of doom issued by the Oracle in the last few days of Gaelen's reign.

Shireroth's oldest Duchy (tied with Brookshire) has become its newest Duchy after Harvey Steffke successfully resurrected Goldshire. Rumor has it that Duke Tosha of Brookshire agreed to the deal in order to gain an ally and defuse constant Elwynnese attempts to encroach on his territory. Joining Duke Harvey in his new realm is Santelran Rotsaa (welcome back Corey!), who joins Vasroixe as our newest citizen.

Kildare was contemplating its very existence for a while, but seems to have decided not to sell off its Dutchal coronet. Instead, the Kaiser has named Jonas the new Duke; Duke Jonas is the only major noble to announce his opposition to Goldshire's ascension, and may khantest its existence on the battlefield. The eerily quiet, conflict-free battlefield.

International Caps Lock Day has ended, except in the County of Discontinuity, where every day is International Caps Lock Day. Everyone else should return to normal lowercase speech at their earliest convenience. Our next big holiday, Switching Day, will begin on October 31. Be sure to sign up in the General Forum.

The only clouds on the horizon are the continued threat of revolt in Mahoz HaSephardim and that one other thing where...uh...what was it...oh, yeah, Gralus is still locked in the bowels of Hell with a small band of heroes including our Kaiser about to risk not only their lives but their very souls to come to the rescue. Shireroth is now officially at peace. After the Ocians refused to comply with a judicial ruling, judge Guido Zambelis invoked his power under the Anunia Convention to end the conflict by fiat, awarding all Ocian territory outside Keltia to the Allied forces. Our returning troops have been showered with confetti, flowers, and the occasional mango. In a ceremony that brought tears to the eyes of even the most cynical and heartless (Ardashir, since you asked) Prime Kampioen Russell inducted Duke Maliki as an official member of the Order of Kampioens for his part in the conflict. Delegates from the Allied countries are now meeting in Komelnitzkiy to discuss the reconstruction of the newly liberated Amokolia.

In an attempt to save our Gralan allies from whatever Horrible Ancient Evil they have invoked this time, Kaiser Gaelen and his advisors are planning a daring raid upon the depths of Hell itself. The council convened at Raynor's Keep has elected to send three of Shireroth's greatest heroes - Erol Yastreb Ly'Piscator, the Angel Guardian, and the Kaiser himself - on a gravship ride to the depths of Balgurd, where they will free Gralus from its magical imprisonment. The Nelagan representative, upon hearing this insane plan, stormed out in a huff, although it is unclear whether he was against the plan, for the plan, or just liked storming out of places.

Antican representatives have arrived in Shireroth seeking trade deals with the Imperial Republic, and Baron Andreas was invited to speak before a group of Ashkenatzan business leaders on the benefits of the Micronational Trade Organization and the Small Commonwealth Unified Economy. Shirekeep is quickly becoming the economic center of the world, thanks to our Ministry of Trade's dedicated work, and of course to the spectacular bank created by Erik Mortis and other members of the Guild of the Machine God. In other economic news, Greg Russell won 20E for his Better Know A County entry, ISI has applied for government funding, and a shadowy group called QUARREL is taking advice from the Machine God on their plans to revolutionize recwar.

In other news, Maximillian of Batavia and William Payne are our two newest citizens, Elwynn continues its battle against the giant spider plague with some help from ISI, and Kathbad is representing Straylight in what's left of the Landsraad. And come chat at #micronations - now with less kicking.

Victory in Amokolia, disappearance of Gralus

Victory in Amokolia as the last Ocian forces there under the command of Lord Montague surrender, and Extreme's mercenaries are bought off. Responsibility for the Amokolian reconstruction has been fairly divided between us and our Askhenatzan allies, and we now join them in the push toward the Ocian homeland in Keltia. With the help of skilled Ashkenatzan commanders like Generals Aster and Goitz, and our own new Kampeion Malliki Tosha, our brave soldiers will no doubt soon be taking tea in Directrus and home before Christmas.

Grave news from Gralus, which has mysteriously disappeared. Emissaries from our missing ally claim that it has removed itself from the world in order to fight a threat so dangerous that it could not be allowed to remain on Micras. Its exact identity is unknown, but it seems to have some link to mirrors. All illusionists, beauticians, supermodels, and other mirror users should be treated with extreme suspicion, if not plain shot on sight - especially around Blavatsky.

In other news: make money by describing your county, give Spangle your Geocities passwords before it's too late, and SHIRECON!!!...maybe, eventually. The ISI is being privatized, to the dismay of Nelaga, and Andreas has prepared a really nifty report on our economy.

But the news from the west is not entirely good. Mercenaries taking Ocian pay have bombed Caligae and landed special forces there in preparation for some kind of plot involving our missiles. All Elwynnese and other citizens are warned to be vigilant and be ready for deployment of local militias. WE SHALL REVENGE!!!!

Pete of Alexandria, universally beloved long time Administrator-General of the Micronational Cartography Society, has resigned, leaving the venerable institution under the command of Adm of Craitland. A hundred oxen have been sacrificed in Pete's honor, and Adm has been sent the traditional gift of several thousand gallons of dark red paint. We hope he finds it very useful.

The election for a new Esezo to take the seat after Keiran Henson's inactivity led to the demise of his government meant the 4th Esezo of Hamland was named Mack.

This is the second HNP Esezo after King Lewis and promised reform of social services as well as more advertising in order to make Hamland a better place. Mack, who has been minister of Transport, is expected to serve his full term, which should end in November near St Josaphat's day.

The new Esezo meant that the HNP published more ideas for curbing Hamland's fortunes. One such was the nationalisation of 90% of the economy by buying King Industries. The reasons were that the mixed economy was not serving Hamland well as there were no real aims for the market and nobody was taking an interest. This is coming as King Lewis is expected to talk about the Socialist market system being ideal for Micronations.

In other reforms, the entire cabinet system is to be overhauled with only 5 of 6 ministers of state remaining. Most of the jobs which would have been small and controlled my smaller ministries will be absorbed by the Home office which should make it one of the most demanding jobs in Hammish government.

End of Hammo-Ocian Relations in Spy Scandal

The Ocian Spy Scandal in Hamland, which has internationally caused massive argument has meant that Hamland no longer will recignise Ocia.

The HNP administration stated they will no longer recognise the state or the government and that they will effectively be wiped form Hamland's affairs, meaning that diplomats and anyone from Ocia who represents Ocia in any way will be asked to leave.

This is the single most aggressive foreign policy move ever taken, due the the coming to light of an Ocian attempt to annex Hamland in a dubious manner. The split will mean that Hamland and Ocia will probably never repair relations.

Ocia have made accusations with little evidence, Hamland has posted an in detail post stating what Ocia's intention was and makes clear accusations.

Operation Animal Hospital, as it was named in the typical manner of choosing a cheesy BBC programme, was the BIBE's month long investigation into Hugo Gravois. After proving that he was a spy, they found evidence that Kovac was indeed behind it, and this evidence is able to be seen with a freedom of information request.

Kovac and the spy profile have been banned and it has hoped that Hamland can now move on from this and improve the country more.

Esezo Impeached

The parliament has officially passed an impeachment motion calling on the election of a new Esezo.

The impeachment comes as the parliament has gone over a month without any activity from the head of state, meaning King Lewis has effectively been running the country.

The lack of action has brought the markets to a halt and parliament to a near standstill, the new election should bing someone new in as head of state, but it is expected that there will be serious discussions within the HNP about the effectiveness of the opposition parties and they may be forced to find a candidate.

Missing Esezo

The Newly Elected Esezo has caused worry by not appearing in parliament.

Keiran Henson has not been seen recently and this has caused worry within the country as his Government is the first non-HNP government. His absence comes in the face of crises when Ocia are flying bombers "unnecessarily close" to Hamland and the Esezo is supposed to lead the country in the front of foreign affairs.

The King has currently been taking the lead of the country and also has proposed amendment to law stating that if in a month's time the Esezo does not make an appearance, then there will be a new election.

UC: One year on

The 24th May has been a iconic date for Hamland, the fall of the UC.

The United Commonwealth was headed by Hamland and contained states such as Monovia, Iridia, Greenuk and Scottania. The UC's states were apart quite weak and together secure.

The UC however fell when states such as Iridia began to doubt the advantages of the UC in terms of activity and this lead to the current state of affairs. So where are the states one year on?

Greenuk is now owned by Craitland in their new home. The island has been under Craitland's control for a while now and Greenuk fell after the breaking up of the UC due to inactivity. It was one of the states who first were in and last to leave.

Scottania also fell after the UC, A large region of Hamland is known as Hammihs Scottania in memory and it still exists as a major region with cities from the old country still existing on the map.

Iridia is now caught up in the Ocian politics and since leaving the UC, had a period of extreme inactivity then joined the Ocian Federation, was given to the DRO (west Ocia) and then had a struggle to leave them and join the East. The state currently has lost territory to Gralus and will be under a lot of pressure with the new state of affairs.

Monovia is now a shadow of it's original self and exists as only an Ocian outpost. They have no independent forum and their presence is almost non-existent now. Remember that when seceded from Hamland, the national liberal party who were the Hammish supporting party, wanted Monovia still to exist as a state.

So it seems the only country to actually benefit from the end of the UC was Hamland. Since the fall of the UC, Hamland has grown in terms of size, an absolutely massive amount. Hamland also has had a year of fantastic activity which is going to pick up again after a poor month, a brilliant stance on the global scene and other feats of cleverness such as the economy and the strong parliament.

Around a month ago, the Hammish parliament did announce plans which did allow there to be a plan for any times where states did want to join the Kingdom. It seems that the UC, although all but one of the states have shrunk, still has left it's mark on the world.

Worst Activity in one year

We've had less than one post a day according to the new data released yesterday. The activity was the second lowest in the recorded history with July 2008's post count at 16 posts over the month.

So what happened?

The post count is for the month before. So June seems to be the worst month for activity in the year for Hamland. Exams are at a close so one would think it wouldn't be that bad, but the fall in activity is probably due to people needing to get back into the swing of things.

We can gladly say the last year has been a great one for activity in comparison to the one before, with many things happening in government. Last year at this time remember Hamland was using the old forums. This was approximately the time of the fall of the UC, with inactivity meaning a lack of faith in Hammish governance and inevitably the breaking up of the bloc to create a new Hamland and one which achieved power on it's own merit.

The pressure is really on the next Esezo to pull Hamland out of the lack of posts in the same way as was done last year. Lots of legislation and programs will have to be undertaken every month as well as use of the budgets to actually make a large difference.

Things don't look good for the supporters of a Shirerithian JASO, but there remains hope for some sort of power-sharing agreement or something or something.

Overruled by the Kaiseress, the Steward stepped grumbling back into line, while the Count kidnapped the Kaiseress, seized a few buildings in Shirekeep, attacked an Imperial base in Yardistan, and attempted to proclaim a new Kaiser. A busy, busy day!

Her Niftyness managed a clever escape, precluding a nuclear option. The coup seems to have gone nowhere further at this time.

Elections called

The Esezo and King, Lewis, has called a general election due to a time of inactivity and a time for renewal being needed.

The election is due to take place on the 1st of July, and currently there is no HNP candidate for Esezo. There are however two centre-right parties competing for Esezo.

The HPP, led by Keiran Henson, has fielded their leader as the candidate. Opinion polls show him in front. The party has made a lot of promises in their manifesto and is the first real threat to the HNP administration in it's long history.

The Lib Dems are also fielding CJMiller. He is unlikely to get support from the HNP in the Esezo race because of the crisis 8 years ago involving an assassination attempt on the King, ignoring of a vote of no confidence and accusations of votes being tampered with.

The King said he will stand for Prime Minister but there are no plans for him to stand for Esezo in the foreseeable future. He said "It is time for someone new. Ideally I'd have someone from the HNP stand and have a centre-left candidate, but it's sad the choice is between two parties who are right wing."

There has already been one policy clash over the HPP's promise to sell of nationalised industry. The King said "The selling of things such as RNB would be fatal to our economy. This institution is international, and allowing people to privately run it would be to ruin what it was set up to do. The HNP will do it's best to block any plans."

The polls show gains for the HPP and LD, but the HNP are likely to dominate the assembly and the King is likely to get the job as PM. The clash of interests however could mean this term could be an explosive one.

Hamland's recent activity levels have been the lowest in around a year. While we still are waiting for real activity figures, the times just now have meant that Hamland has indeed become an inactive state for the time being.

The Govenrment has announced that it will bounce back, but the strains on time for the citizens has meant that the country is in a state of dormancy until more time is available.

The History of the Grand Commonwealth

Just over four years ago the micronational world was slightly shocked when a new and mostly unexpected micronational union appeared on the scene: the Grand Commonwealth.

It started out in 2004 as a plan between Treesia and Aerlig to try and create the first new micronational empire since Tymaria (which had lasted for just over 10 months until September 2002). It was also an opportunity to try and restore some of the former Apollo Foundation territories that had been previously and controversially removed by the MCS.

By the end of 2004 Lemuria, Antica and Arminy had signed up, but the latter two got cold feet and withdrew, throwing the whole project into jeopardy. In January 2005, an inspired approach to Babkha (followed later by Alteria) led to the launch of the Grand Commonwealth on April 28th 2005. It almost immediately became known as the "Great Satan" as a consequence of a major propaganda campaign instigated by Diga of Attera and implemented by Scott of Hyperborea.

A number of other micronations joined the Grand Commonwealth over the next two years, either as members or protectorates, while it also played a significant role in the formation of the MCS-rivalling Geographical Standards Organisation in 2006.

It all ceased abruptly at the end of the summer of 2007, following the withdrawal of Treesia and an effective boycott of the federal government by Babkha. A swift closure of the forums took advantage of the vacation period. Most of its former members have since failed to survive.

The Grand Commonwealth's website is now restored, and a more detailed history has been published there.

Their latest report from Ashkenatza indicates that the Nohsi, Pachad Emet ben Mavet, has resigned due to absenteeism, an unfortunate pandemic that seems to have afflicted many in that nation of late.

Foreign Minister Maksym Izaak Rozenthal is expected to lead the government for the foreseeable future. An unnamed source is reported to have stated that it has proved difficult for recent administrations to provide leadership when there is no-one to be led.

Government Running out of Steam

The recent slump in activity has been a sign of the slowing of the Hammish Government's machine. The Lewis Administration, which has been a massive force in Hammish politics for as long as it has existed has been running out of ideas and running out of steam.

The next election is looking like it will be in late July, and government is almost certainly going to change hands.

The governing parties have done very little this year (month irl) with a new Abortion motion put into parliament to try and raise some debate. the Hammish Telecom debate grounded to a halt and has meant that the business is now losing million and losing control over the economy.

The new Ham50 has had little to say for itself too, the economy is expected to witness it's first decline in Value for the first time. This is the first time in Hamland there has been such a crisis.

Many people are putting this down the the pressures from outside Hamland meaning that people don't have enough time to participate in the democracy.

THe future of Hamland at the moment is uncertain.

Geocities, Yahoo!'s "$4bn dotcom relic" has stopped accepting new hosting accounts and will be closed later this year. For the micronational community, this means that a number of micronational sites, some quite old and of historical interest, will need to find new homes sometime soon.

Fortunately the erstwhile Apollo Foundation has just launched a campaign to gather information on sites that will need to be relocated, with the intention of archiving many of them itself. It is hoped that, for some sites, other parties will also be interested in offering ongoing hosting arrangements.

An initial list of micronational sites currently hosted on Geocities has been published by Imperium Incognita, while the issue has also been publicised on the widely-visited micronational forums aof Microhub, Micronations.EU and Shireroth.

New Coalition set to be strongest government yet

This election has led many to beleive that there will be much arguing in the Houses of Parliament, But they would be proven wrong. The HNP has started a coalition with the newly formed HPP and the Green Revolution to form a coalition that covers almost 3/4 of the members of Government.

The new cabinet has the HNP in firm control of the cabinet, but puts Kieran Henson as Foreign Minister, Peter Ulsness as Chancellor and Stanley Greenhawk as Environment Minister.

Although there will be obvious disadvantages of having a multi-party government covering parties left, right and centre; the Hammish parliament can expect a boost in legislation to hopefully push the interests of the nation forward.

This all comes as the Esezo and Prime Minister who have governed Hamland since the start of the Democracy have announced that they may not stand again. This should make the next election very interesting as new parties will have more of an opportunity to form the first non-HNP government. The King is expected to take a job in the cabinet in the next election and also do his duties as King.

Hammo-West Ocian Split likely

The King has released a statement last night about leaking of information to the West Ocians.

The Kings announcement told people of Hamland that there have been leaks of Hammish information and that he was unimpressed with the situation and told Hammish people to "Remember our core values, remember our constitution".

It has been clear that there have been leaks in information on the Hammish forums and the government leadership is not at all pleased with the situation.

There are set to be various documents declassified by the HNP and made public in the near future so more information is set to be known, but the informaiton which was apparently leaked to the DRO and the DRO's use of this information meas that the Hammish government is left with no choice other than to distance itself farther from Ocia's affairs.

Even though the govenrment has risen to ignore the conflict and not take sides, they have treated both sides as they would treat any other country, favouring neither. The Hammish Government will be likely not to support either side directly and will no longer treat the DRO with the same enthusiasm. This is the first time since the Council of Free States lost influence that any nation has used reconnaissance against Hamland and Hamland has had to respond.

4th electoral Victory for HNP

The HNP rose to win the 4th General election in Hammish History and secured another 4 years in charge with a reduced majority of only 50% of the Hammish Parliament.

The Greens, the Lewists and the Liberals all took their own share of the other 50% with one independent candidate being elected in Keeni. The Esezo vote showed Lewis was still the most preferred candidate by showing he had 2/3rds of the support of the country. Taking into account this was the first election to run smoothly we do not know if it is reduced or if it is an increased majority.

The re-elected Esezo also said that this may be his last term as Esezo as it will have been 16 years to the day he democratically won his first election making him legitimate head of state after 36 years of him being firstly the leader, then Hamperor and finally King of Hamland.

He said "After 36 years of leading Hamland I think it's time to let someone fresh into government. I'll make this term matter and show the country the HNP always have fresh ideas."

The election has shown that the people are beginning to want more parties in the state and the country is set to change. Maybe the 3rd Esezo will be the first fairly elected non-HNP Esezo, maybe the largest party will be a non-HNP party. The polls show however that the HNP will stay in charge of the country until the 36th Anniversary (3rd Anniversary irl) of the founding of the State of Hamland.

Outrage at Lib-Dem Campaign

There has been massive outrage at the tone and the nature of the recent Lib Dem campaign.

The Lib Dem campaign said that the King is a liar and a communist and said they would put a stop to it. The negative tone of this attack made Prime Minister Duke J firstly condemn the attack saying that it would be detrimental to the Hammish Political system if we based it on negativity.

The King showed great anger in his reply saying that this was based on MacCartyist attitudes and that ti will not be tolerated, he demanded an apology which was not given. The leader of the Green Revolution advised a ban, and the King said that charges which were dropped may be used along with new charges if there is not an apology.

This comes only on the election after the one which ended with CJMiller losing popularity over his dictatorship and may mean that CJMiller could lose the right to stand for Esezo.

Biggest election yet

The up and coming Hammish elections have seen the biggest number of parties yet stand for parliament.

The two parties already existing; the HNP and the Liberal Democrats (formerly the Reform Party), have new competition from the two new parties.

The newest party is the Green Revolution, which stands for a parliamentary democracy rather than a presidential democracy and supports green policies. They are not standing for Esezo and so will only have a lot of sway if they get a majority in parliament and can change the constitution and Esezo act with thier majority.

The next aprty is the Union of Lewists, who are a party who support more powers to go to the Monarchy. We currently are waiting for more informaiton on thier policies.

The Liberal Democrats are very much interested now in technology and they want a second house to be formed in order to make more checks and balances on the powers of the first house as well as more chacks and balances altogether.

This election is set to be the biggest yet and the next parlaiment will be the most vibrant ever. All Hamland can do is vote and look forward to the new views on Hamalnd's future.

HNP Party Conference opens

The Conference of the HNP has officially opened in Hamland where new matters are expected to be brought up.

In an interview, the Esezo and King said "I feel that the conference is important because we need to look at the constitutional future of Hamland. If we are to grow as a nation we need to have more involvement of others in our political system. I have dominated the Hammish political arena since the birth of modern Hamland, and we need to find new ways to move more power to the people."

He also said "I hope to discuss the future of our government. We've acheived a lot over the last 4 years, and we need to see what we can achieve over the next four. We need more fresh ideas and we need more direction. A party with out direction cannot govern a country. We have always been clear about what we beleive, we need to continue to apply it".

The party conference should also get views from the Prime Minister as well as Mack, who make up a large seciton of the HNP.

Today saw the announcement of the 4th Hammish Elections which marks the end of a remarkable term of what should be a remarkable year.

This term saw a large interest in Hamland and saw Hamland grow sufficiently for the current Esezo to be pleased. The elections mark the end of a hugely HNP dominated parliament as we should be seeing 3 parties in this election and we don't know how many people will stand to be Esezo.

The elections were announced in Parliament and the vote will take place 4 months before the deadlins (1 week IRL). The HNP are hoping for another election under the belt, but the larger turnout expected means that anything could really happen this time.

Someone Has Complained.

Someone has objected to that fact that, until today, we haven't published anything for over a month. We'd like to point out that our slogan was deliberately worded to reflect the high probability of that happening. We'd also like to point out that until a few months ago, we hadn't published anything for over a year-and-a-half. so not doing so for about a month is not really a big deal for us.

Naturally, we know of no other micronational news service that has allowed for this. Therefore, as Mr Cairney has so eloquently demonstrated, they have no excuses. So there.

In all fairness, when MNN was first set up some years ago, it did encourage lots of people to do their own blogging as a change from relying on a very small number of people to do all the journalism that had hitherto been the case, thus helping to spread that arduous burden. Even in these quiet times, there is still an average of one story per day, from thirty-odd feeds, which seems a not unreasonable level of reporting. Quality versus quantity, and all that.

Mr Cairney has pleaded that more people should be writing articles and so putting something back into the community. On our part, consider it done.

Even if it is recycled news.

Hamland's politics are very much aboutachievinga balance of Nationalism and caring for those around it, a balance between a socialist foundation with some conservative and liberal morals mixed in too. The country is all about balance, that is probably explained bythePurple Flag, which mergestheSocialist red with the conservative blue.

Hamland however can be considered something of a micronational success by it's people. Howso? It is an average size and it is an average age. But what sets it apart is the sheer loyalty of it's citizens, having only at some points had 2 citizens it has pressed forward andpioneeredeconomics and politics.

Hamland isn't scared todabblein experimentation ofsystemsin order to make it run well, it's got a unique Business Sector as well as a unique government structure. it is also sonationalistbecausethenationalismis based onthecountry being fair,justand caring, which all citizens stand for. This nationalism spreads into it'sforeignpolicy and that is how they meethandinhand.

The King is someone who has worked hard for what Hamland and is trusted, that is why his party has been the main party for 2 years having had little or no opposition due to it's popularity. One factor could be that it has steered clear of controversy and won every vote in it's history first time round. Another could be that it is just a popular movement.

Our nation is defined by the fact we are all working towards a better Hamland and not to bring it down, there is a sense of Unity, community and respect. I think that is what makes us who we are. We are a community of people who share the same ideals. There is no ideology which is stuck to, we are free thinkers. We aren't too liberal, too socialist, too conservative we are Hammish. Hamland's Purple Movement is based on moderation and respect, and it seems that if thesuccessof our policy are good enough there could be more Purple Parties in the future.

The King announced advances in the Hammish Military and Spaceprogramstoday saying that they would be "Of a massive benefit to the nationsappearanceand safety".

The Hammish military which has never been in any external conflict is often seen as something which is non-existent. The fact is that the Hammish Military is quite large but kept very secret, with very little information ever leaving the Offices created for such information.

The expansions on the military include new Air Bases and training facilities as well as a general increase in funding. The MoD has also said it hasdesigneda few secret projects which may be unveiled if they are produced.

The Ministry governing space research announced a space station will be built and it will be called the "Discovery" after a ship which interests the King. The Discovery will be a research ship looking into how things function in low gravity conditions as well as other research.

The creation of the NHS, the beginning of the minimum wage and a new benefit system has brought Hamland forward in terms of Social Justice and the country now enjoys all of these after the unanimous support for all three got them pushed through.

Hamland has had a small decrease in the amount of activity enjoyed on it's forums, but this month has shown that the Government has staying power and will reform Hamland and make it a greater nation.

The new moves are set to almost abolish severe poverty from and help the nation have a high living standard.

The King said "We have one last step to complete, we must make it easier for people to get into work so we have unemployment at a complete low. When unemployment is 0.1% then we will be where we aim to be."

Late last night, riots sprung up Port Jookoo, the capitol of Ostshon Kagan and the personal city of Duke Gerk ronAnaglea. Hundreds of protesters rose up against the 13th century technology cap in the city, rebelling against the old ways. Minutes later, a host of darkly dressed men wielding matching skull-decorated scythes swept into the city, a deadly shadow killing any who tried to stop the riots. The real horror was yet to come, though: three demonic beings, a hundred feet tall each and completely wreathed in flame, appeared and burned down many of the old thatched houses, symbolic of the death of the old ways.

After a half an hour or so, one of the scythe-wielding warriors, calling himself a blackguard, issued a proclaimation. He said that the Ostshon Kagan now belonged to Mannimarco the Omniscient, the King of Worms, Patron of the Forbidden Arts. Those who aided in the revolution for freedom would be rewarded grandly, he promised.

To the west, the Skoitomashu Academy is preparing for war, although they hope it will not reach them. What Duke Gerk is up to, no one yet knows.

Widespread riots hit hard in the city of Crawley Down this week. After George Wittersons defeat there were isolated cases of fights breaking out and various betting agencies such as WrycanDenarii being raiding after they put George as the favourite to the win the match. Matches last week and this week were then cancelled due to concerns of more violence occurring however Anti-Violent Sport Activists quickly used the situation as ammunition to shut down the sport and from what started as a non-violent protest erupted into a full riot which has wreaked havoc upon the city over the last two days.

Fear not! I have returned. After a disastrous hardware failure that crippled by activities, and some internal management, I have returned to update you all.

Recently Zoran Georgiev has joined my nation, both enthusiastic and very competent, he has proved to be a valuable asset. With the onset of various operations that could benefit Cerulea immensely, we will see him show his true colors as the work will mount up for him.

I also poked around just to see whats going on and it seems that Tomsett has actually done something right for a change. If you think I have mistyped, you're partially correct. In creating it he hoped to replicate the MNN, needless to say the old MNN people did not like that too much. It caused bad blood, words were exchanged but in the end, it seems he has fixed it. But if you ask me the people who closed the MNN should have passed the torch, not drop off the face of the earth with no warning. So very tacky. I scorn Liam and the rest of the MNN staff for not giving the rest of us a little heads up before just turning off the MNN. Passing it on to Tomsett, even though he is a twit, would have been a much better idea.

A Very Different Micronations.net Returns

Two nights ago, Micronations.net returned quietly.

Now, to be fair, it's very stripped down. There is no forum---instead, it will serve almost as a mini-portal, directing visitors to recommended sites. But it is back.

MNN is back in a way through the RSSMix service, but it is going down a lot so MNS is still around, don't worry. Eventually, the two services may come together but at the moment some technical difficulties are preventing that, so Micronations.net is linking to MNS under the MNN feed just in case.

Other resources are also listed, and the aspects of the site such as the "What are micronations?" articles may be rewritten over time.

The funny thing about letting other people write articles on your newsblog is that you at that point have fair excuse to have articles about yourself.

Foghorn can be lazy, to be honest. After founding MNS I asked him to remove the Eastern Benacia podcast which has its own feed that it should be updating, the single episode of Micronations Now because... to be honest it's not likely I'll be doing anymore, and the two Antican Newscast Specials or whatever they're called because they conflict with posts from the Antican Liberator. He's still yet to do so, and honestly it might not matter because I've been able to add enough other feeds that they are buried deep on the first page.

However, if you look to the right he can be awesome. What MNS has for now, a Gregarius install, is pretty nice---way better than Lilina---and you can thank him for that. And if you look to the right, he seems to be doing me a big favor by calling himself a Micronational News Service Accredited News Source. While MNN had accreditation a long time ago, MNS does not yet. In other words, it is basically a blatant plug for MNS. I appreciate it. I also appreciate the board the Commonwealth of Antica is providing and the link Shireroth has given me on their Wiki and their forum.

Meanwhile, some interesting sources provided for MNS... Marlabor says from Shireroth is the most interesting. The big-person-or-character says... boxes used to be a big thing in micronationalism. Marlabor says might be the last one left. While it is mainly intended for those who are as familiar with Shireroth as they can be, it's still a good update.

Meanwhile, the State Academy of Antica is gearing up for its first classes on the path to grant its first Bachelor's Degrees in Education. Go to the site for more on that.

What the heck happened to Attera?

Apparently it still exists in some form. There are several forums I found partially due to the slpit they had, none of which were particularly active---but I found a news feed for them that had been updated in the last four months.

What the heck happened to Cyberia?

It had some squabbling over a split of some sort way back when, but I'm not 100% sure of the answer.

Why is the RSS feed not outputting right?

The site itself works great but the two feeds it outputs are completely invalid and I could only get it parsed with Google reader. Go figure.

Kidnappings in Toketi!

Last night, as our Queen Tsunade ronToketi slept peacefully, three winged giants quietly entered her room, sedated her, and flew away before the guards stationed outside could stop them. Bayen ronToketi, former King, who slept in another area of the Palace in Rielrar, was the first at the scene, sending out messages to all the other nobles to come as soon as possible.

Investigation commenced immediately. The first subject, voiced by Boris Serov (Prodigy Almighty) was Callidus Dolosus (Scorpiox), known for his use of demons in war. However, he was quickly eliminated for lack of motive - he and Tsunade had agreed on most major issues, and she had offered to bail him out when he had been in danger of losing his titles and land. With the obvious answer no longer obvious, the investigation become more and more confused.

Meanwhile, Roman of Montag fame was building himself a city in Doshtan Yokutar called Rapture. Last night, he, too was kidnapped, but he was then inexplicably released this afternoon, with no memory of his captivity except unconsciousness.

Back at the Palace, Sir Gerk ronAnaglea suggested searching for a DNA sample, which was quickly found on the window where the large demon-like creatures had broken through. Scorpiox has offered a sample of DNA from his own Demons for comparison. We anxiously await the test results; perhaps they can elaborate more and help us get our beloved Queen back.

While Tsunade is missing, Prodigy is acting as King with full executive power, except perhaps a veto by Tsunade should she return. Hopefully he will use his authority to further the investigation, and if that sadly proves a dead end, then may he rule well.

It seems that Atticus will never leave the spotlight, even now, months past his death. He first showed up on Toketi over a year ago, silently observing as we went about our business, then fading into the background. After a long period of doing nothing, he made his first big move with the creation of Montag Industries. We covered the rise of this new company as it embodied the boom in Tokian activity, doing better than ever ourselves, then suddenly - no new stories for four months. Why?

Going over the records, it's easy to guess. Just before we vanished, tensions were growing in Toketi, Sir Nargoth moving his troops to oversee Atticus' newly deployed army containing for the first time the highly experimental "Montag." What was a Montag? It was a genetically created creature, spliced from four or more animals, including human, wolf, chameleon, and scorpion DNA. They were bred for war, and darn good at it.

Too good at it. The human DNA was dominant enough to give them intelligence Atticus lost control; they captured and killed him and his men, setting out to dominate all of Toketi. That was when we stopped writing - it was far too dangerous. However, one brave Tokian was able to get out a single news story, published by Omega News. You can read it there.

Eventually, the Montag threat was brought to heel by some clever strategies by the remaining Tokian nobles, but not without great losses, including the death of Atticus himself. Every Montag was quarenteened on an island in the Ostshon Kagan, known henceforth as Atticus' Folly. The Montag Crisis was followed by a period of somewhat depression in Toketi, causing the abdication of the King and the ascention of the current Queen, but the nation still stagnated.

All that changed with the arrival of the Iron Tide Letter. Signed the "Holy Roman Emperor," a parchment distributed all over Toketi promised better times coming in a holocaust of change. They were largely ignored, especially since they were centered in Doshtan Yokutar, a land known for its propaganda, but this mistake would be costly.

The peace that had held Toketi literally exploded as a nuclear device went off on a fault line in the middle of the ocean, causing a tidal wave and massive damages to the island of Chelkran Kesh in the southeast. Prince Boris Serov (commonly known as Prodigy Almighty), the official Executor of Chelkran Kesh, took action immediately. Using whatever circumstantial evidence he could find, he pinpointed the blame on a Montag anomoly named Roman. Roman was a Montag who could speak English, and had recently set up a base in Doshtan Yokutar. It all made sense.

Mobilizing his efficient and proven armed forces, Prodigy quickly and effectively wiped Roman's base off the map. Just before his capture, though, Roman did something very strange. He committed suicide, stabbing himself with a knife. The strangest thing yet: his blood was red. Montag blood was black. A quick investigation revealed this Roman was not a Montag, but a man in an incredibly elaborate suit. Not just any man - Atticus himself. He had staged his own death, waiting for a chance at vengence for those whom he percieved as having wronged him.

The real Roman was found soon after by Callidus Dolosus (also known as Scorpiox). It turned out to be true that he spoke English, but his words were halting and not as fluent as Atticus had been in pretending.

Now we are rather certain that Atticus is dead, since we actually saw him die this time. Hopefully now Toketi can progress from his terrorism into an era of prosperity.

Micronational News Service begins service

Nafticon, Commonwealth of Antica - In an attempt to fill the void in one stop shopping left by the Micronational News Network, Brandon Sullivan has stepped in and begun operating his own aggregator, naming it the Micronational News Service.

Based off the code for the previous MNS established by Zulu 5 Oscar, the new version sports aggregated RSS feeds, an easier interface, and the prospect of many new features, like streaming of radio shows direct from the site.

Rumors are flying that the MCS is also working on establishing their own aggregator, using the list of feeds used by the now deceased MNN. However, the software and features, and even if such a project are is fact in progress, have yet to be disclosed.

The Unseen Truth

After taking a look at the completely biased INS article about the GSO-MCS merger, I find the whole thing to be absolute rubbish! The fact that anyone would want to take an unstable system like the GSO and merge it with such a usefull and active system like the MCS is sheer madness!

From what I can tell, that idea is simply a bid to gain power by Liam Sinclair who stands to lose power if he isn't elected to their almighty board. However that is based on the very plausible opinion of Dr-Spangle, who usualy is right.

Although the Babkhans came up with some excellent ideas to enhance the GSO, the MCS has previously tried these ideas and proved them to be impractical. So in essence they are trying to copy the MCS, because they're jealous of its complete and total superiority.

The GSO's complete dissolution would probably serve the micronational world so much better, considering it would simplify things greatly. Considering the claims process of the GSO, the MCS has them beat, because the GSO is slow, bulky and utterly useless. By the time someone has finaly gotten on the map theyre dead. So in a sence, the GSO is the graveyard with very few exceptions.

It seems William Tomosets arrogance and irrationality knows no bounds. He has written an article claiming to have found more Ocian documents. If you ask me he has no proof, offering an image with no URL to any valid, concrete source of info just makes him look like more of an utter fuck head than before.

His complete disregard for the principles of common courtesy, tact and factual information has made him both amusing and a thorn in everyone's side. His position as a writer of the Intermicronational News Service has put him in a good position to make a big stink about anything.

I do feel sorry for Ocia, and I do condemn Will to an eternity of bathing in his own shit that he starts. His cronies came to his reputations rescue when I called him out at the INS, but infact, half of the micronational world despises him, his nation and his shit starting ways.

Yes, it is true, much to my dismay as you can tell. Apparently a man called Wll Tmstt accuses Ocia of launching a satellite to spy on his puny nation. If you ask me, I think he is forging the documents merely to attract attention to himself, and is doing an excellent job.

If anything he is an expert at grabbing peoples attention for himself. I do find it amusing that he would go through such an elaborate plot (which surpasses my abilities only slightly), to ruin one nation and to make himself a celebrity and victim.

What I find to be truely amusing is peoples responses. He is an expert at making people boil over, I think. The President of Ocia became rather displeased with the plot, not seeing it for its true nature. And the true nature of the whole thing is showing off Wills amaizing yarn spinning abilities.

I find it to be lovely fiction, very James Bond-esque. I commend him, I really do, for being an absolute twit. Few people can be such a twit, and believe me he is one. Only matched in twityness and over-all pompusness by Benjamin Grey. Both are enourmous twits.

I was once commisioned to help reform the MRWS under Ben Grey. However once my modifications were rejected I realized two things,

He is a snobby twit who reminds me of a sourpussed English-nobleman.
Once the changes were rejected, everything was the same

In the second subject, once I realized it was the exact same, I had figured out why people left. He is so uptight and concerned about being spot on, people got tired of him being an absolute twit, and left for the far superior Anunia Convention.

Which is fine with me, there are those with much, much more. But that isn't my business now is it.

Hello fellow Sweet people and micronational enthusiasts,

Its been a while since I've put any work into maintaining Sweet but I have been awfully busy with other commitments. However, now that I have the time to invest in Sweet, I will make sure I put the effort in to make this one happy nation
Well lately, I have finally sealed our relationship with the Kingdom of Fristehen by writing up an international treaty of recognision. I was nice to speak to King J Cole of Fristehen again.
I have also just come across a message from our allies Cakeland that was sent 2 months ago (how embarassing ) which was an offer of membership to yet another organisation which has the potential to rival the UM in size and boost the recognision of Sweet.
I am also planning on extending the size of my nation by allowing some of our friendly micronations to open embassies in the Nation of Sweet. I also need to come up with a national anthem for this country.

Unworldly Happenings - June 15, 2008

For the past few days, all of Toketi have been anxious. Something mysterious has occurred in the Port of Sails. Although it is rumored that royalty and high ranking officials are investigating and understanding the problem, the common public have no clue. I, myself, have only bits and pieces of information regarding the incident.

It occurred exactly one week ago, in which the infamous Liam conToketi went missing shortly after some magic practice. But that is not the oddest of news; in fact the entire Imperial Palace disappeared that day. This left officials completely baffled by nature, for an entire building complex to go amiss along with an important figure of society. Some firmly believe Liam was somehow chosen to perform talks for a much greater power. Others believe it was a magical experiment gone wrong. Who really knows? For us common folk of Toketi, we'll have to wait and hear from the investigators. So far a barrier has prevented the majority of people from even seeing where the spectacle happened.

This is Atticus reporting, hoping all is well throughout Toketi!

At approximately midnight last night, Atticus' standing army suddenly vanished, MIA or KIA. The first suspect was obviously Sir Nargoth, as his army was deployed not far from Atticus', but quickly it became apparent that the Demon of the North's army was essentially dormant in Furfein Tosha conMakain. Instead, it is suspected that an internal threat caused this.

This morning, I sent in some of my best scouts to determine what has occured. The cities of Brotherhood in Spartistan are burning, so that seemed to be the best place to search. They have found nothing yet; I will keep you updated.

The last transmission we recieved from Atticus was in fact three days ago, the night before the Montags were released: another Atticus' Propaganda Stand interview. We include the full text:

Montag Industries Interview 2 - June 15th, 2008

With a long awaited wait, tomorrow holds the key for something big for Montag Industries. But what exactly is going on in that head of Atticus? I decided it would be best to analyze myself in a personal interview once again.

"So, Atticus, you return the day before the Monday you've been waiting for. Tell me, what can Toketi expect?" I began to interrogate.

"I'd be happy to answer these questions! As you know, I'm very excited about tomorrow. Montag Industries is releasing an extremely original product that will most likely end up ki... er, I mean assisting the nation of Toketi! This product, very ingenious, has been worked on for a very long time. I can't expect it to be the best at first, but so far I believe it will be worth the wait and patience. Of course, my best scientists are also relieved that their work for now is nearly finished." Atticus responded.

"Intriguing, but what is this product?" I asked further.

"That, you will have to wait for, and even then you won't realize what it is for some time." I told Atticus, angrily.

"That's fine. How about what "Montag" really comes from? Are you a German student? Or is it from this novel "Fahrenheit 451" I've heard talk about?" I asked.

"Ahh, I will assure you, I am not schooled in the mysteries of the German language. I myself only know English, some Spanish, and basic Latin. I am, however, an avid fan of the novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. Whether or not the fiery novel is related to my product will have to wait until tomorrow, as why spoil the fun? I said.

"That's very interesting. I can't wait to see the "Montags"." I replied.

"Haha, yes. I know, because you're me." I said happily.

Thus concluded another fabulous, yet short, interview. Tomorrow's future? Who knows besides me!

But did Atticus actually know what the next few days would hold? Destruction of his own army is hardly planned activity... we will let you know more when we know more. Thank you for reading.

At noon today, Sir Nargoth of Damev began a surprise deploy of his full army, and set a course northeast. He offered no explanation, merely began moving his troops. Approximately seven hours later, Atticus, the Steward of Port Jookoo, deployed his own army, containing the first of the mysterious "Montags".

Neither has deigned to make public comment on the matters. We will just have to wait and see if... or when... their forces collide.

The sudden mobilization of Nargoth's Shadow Legion has left many in a shocked state of surprise. Why the sudden and massive pull together of military power, why risk the stability of not only this realm but the entire nation?

These questions have no visible answers and the Lord behind the actions has refused to comment on what he might be planning.

For weeks talk has spread of the possibility of war, talk which most had passed off as idle threats and chatter. But now a force has been fully mobilized and based on the principals which drive military action it will by no means be the last.

The majority of the issues which are currently creating friction between the Tokian lords are the direct result of King Bayen's "New deal" which requires citizens to recognize their lord for the lord to continue holding his title. Normally this wouldn't be a problem except that the current population of each realm by no means reaches the population needed for all 5 Lords to remain in power. The possibility that they might lose the positions they have worked hard to gain is highly troubling and has been driving them to drastic measures.

North's reasoning for this massive build up can not be clearly understood but given the current fragile state of the nation this action might be the one which shatters the peace and sends the nation into chaos.

New Beginnings! But Where? - May 30th, 2008

As time passes on, many fellow citizens of Toketi have been wondering.. what's going on with The Brotherhood In Arms? The Brotherhood In Arms, or BIA, has only been around since the ending of the Second War Of Guilds. But in this timeframe, things seem to be moving slowly from the external perspective of the guild. What exactly is going on? All requirements have been met to begin construction of the infrastructure for the guild.

Quite a few rumors are floating about that the BIA will in fact not be located in the glorious cities of West Brotherhood and East Brotherhood. Some say that the BIA has chosen not to locate themselves in the area, but rather choose a city in the Ostshon Kagan province. For strategic brilliance? For the sake of culture? No one knows for sure. There are even more heated, radical beliefs that the BIA are actually planning on establishing a new town just to hold their marvelous new guild hall and related industries. Such a radical idea for just a guild hall to be built, but the province has been soaked in rumors. Yet another rumor states the BIA plans to completely refine and fortify the town of Northwarden, which is still part of the Ostshon Kagan province. This strange idea remains a mystery, especially because Toketi's own Artificer Jarus, a Covenant member, rules the city of Tyr Sog only a few dozen miles away from Northwarden.

With all these odd ideas, no one can be sure what is in store for the future. Well actually, Guildmaster Gerk and myself do, but why spoil this article?

Montag Industries Countdown Approaches

Atticus of Toketi, the new proprietor of Montag Industries, has recently publicized a countdown which ends tommorrow, but not letting anyone in on what actually is going to happen then. Analysts have suggested that since the end-date is Monday and the name "Montag" is actually the German word for "Monday", some significance has been attached, and at least a few Tokians suspect a reference to Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451. But no one is totally sure. We all wait in anticipation for tomorrow. What will happen?

An Emergency Service Project: IO MI SALVO COSI`

For the last day of school, June 11, the Emergency Service of Seborga-Vallebona, has organized, together with the Directorate of Teaching Bordighera and the Seborga School, an afternoon dedicated to teaching and educating the students on matters related to safety and emergency services, called: IO MI SALVO COSI` (translated: Ill be safe in this way).

The activities, aimed at primary school students, were intended to raise the awareness of safety issues at home, at school or the safe use of bicycles and motorcycles.

The students reflected on their relationship with the territory around them, with the environment and the need for its preservation as well as how to keep ourselves safe from accidents or natural disasters such as fires, flooding of rivers, floods or earthquakes.

The idea was to create an important ethics purpose: to raise awareness to safety by introducing fundamental values such as solidarity and the need to take care of others and to help them.

In a society that holds as values personal interest, success or appearing on television, the schools must educate for real values that promote minds open to the needs of others, recognizing the worth of the individual.

In this context, the Emergency Service is a good example of an organisation based on the support of voluntary individuals.

The volunteers of the Emergency Service, Alessandra Ghelfi, Massimo Paci, and the teacher Emanuela Rebaudengo, also a volunteer, have expressed their hope that the children themselves will promote to their families the awareness of safety issues through these activities learned at school.

Montag Industries Interview - May 29th, 2008

Through the history of time, technology has always served mankind in various ways. Some for better, some for worse, and even some for a better worse. But I, Atticus, choose something else for technology. I choose it to.. serve me! And with this in mind, I found no other soul in Toketi better to interview about Montag Industries besides myself!

"So, what are "Montag Industries" and what do you people do, if you don't mind me asking, sir." I asked.

"A fabulous question! I'll give you a fabulous answer. Montag Industries is a business center I've established for the greater good of those who deserve it. Mainly myself, but maybe my courteousy will reach others? I aim to assist in whichever way I can using the resources available." I replied.

"Interesting, but you still haven't told me what Montag Industries will do! Certainly those are your goals, but what will you actually be doing? Producing goods? Ideas? It seems so vague!" I asked myself again.

"As the proprietor of Montag Industries I can assure you I've told you everything my company is about." I said in response to myself.

"If it so pleases you, Atticus, I'll answer what I can very honestly." I said, complying with my own requests.

"I'd like to inquire about the name of "Montag Industries". Where did it come from and what does it mean for the company?"

"Ah, what a marvelous question! Well, it means what it means!" I remarked.

"Sir, that doesn't answer the question." I replied, irritated with myself.

"It doesn't? What a shame. Next question." I said, demanding the next question.

"Alright sir, what is this countdown we've all seen you so publicly excited about?" I interrogated further.

"Ahh, the excitement! Can't you feel it? The rush of your blood knowing what's to come?" I paused. "Oh but yes, you don't know! Poor soul. To be honest, Atticus, I'm releasing one of my most anticipated products that will make Montag Industries famous! I won't discuss what just yet, but I can assure you will be be for the greater good." I said, answering my own question.

"I can already assume you won't tell me what you're releasing. But who's greater good?" I asked as time began to fall short for this interview.

"For those who.... deserve it." I replied, smiling wickedly.

"Well, thank you for this interview! I certainly hope to talk again once that project is released! Even before maybe?" I asked.

"Hah, maybe Atticus, just maybe." I replied.

And so my own interview of myself left me with quite a few questions, but I already knew all the answers, despite myself not saying much. Only time will tell!

New Deal

A series of quick reforms were just now introduced in Toketi. A short summary follows:

Map
The mainland Toketi map has just been redrawn as the image on the right.

Economy
All taxes and most government jobs were abolished, due to the fact that they were merely causing a pointless cycle of cashflow.

Nobility
A more complicated (yet self-working) system of nobility was establish. To read more, see my full post here. The important highlights:

Position of Yashere changed to Duke
All Duchies (i.e. the former regions) divided into two Earldoms as well, one for each city on the map.
Each Earldom has an indefinite amount of Baronies within, also.
"Acknowledgment" requirements to hold a position - that is, in order two be a Duke, 2 people who live primarily in your Realm must acknowledge your rule in order for you to actually get it. An Earl requires 1 acknowledgment, and a Baron requires none.

Regions
Each region has gained the ability (and responsibility) to create an enlarged map of their region to include the smaller baronies.

Swift news came earlier this week that a charter, known to most as the CITRA charter, has offiicially been signed by King Bayen and other important political figures. How does this affect the common public of our beloved Toketi? Well, to be brutally honest, it will determine everyone's life for the coming months. The charter will change war as most have known it to be; scheduled weeks of tournament-based fighting and nothing to lose attitudes will be replaced. "What what?" the common citizens ask? It is quite simple; constant warfare.

Under new guidelines and timeframes, King Bayen has initiated an entirely new type of fighting style. No longer shall contestants be limited by a timespan or a perishable amount of resources. In fact, if King Bayen has been as sucessful as we all have hoped, battles as we know it will be much more real and violent. Armies will be able to replenish their forces, cities can be taken and destroyed, and grudges can now be exposed in the new system as fighting has no confirmed time limit. But, with this new system, everything is at stake for everyone. Guild affiliations will grow much stronger as sides wage war for territory or supplies. Revenge will rain bittersweet blood across scarred land as people get their chance to smack their enemy's head in the mud. Technologies will change as fighting styles and materials are exposed through vigorous combat. Who knows what is in store for our beloved world of Toketi?

Toketi isn't the only one to adapt to a new charter system for honorable wars. In fact, any country that feels the desire to join can apply to sign the charter. However, who's madness could possibly choose to put all their land at stake for such a brutal warring system? No one can know for sure, but we'll all know soon enough in the coming days. CITRA is functioning and for those who have agreed to participate in the massive war... alea iacta est!

It has been a lucky thirteen days since Atticus wrote this, (delayed due to "technical" problems :P ), and so far no war has broken out. Yet.

Activity Slump, A Strange Disappearance

Toketi seems to have fallen on hard times. With the nations failure to meet their goal of 42,000 posts by 5/21 the nations incredible posting power seems to have hit a snag. By no means do I personally believe that this is a sign of things to come for the nation it just seems the citizens need a bit of a kick start something to draw them out of hiding. For once they have left the shelter of the dark holes to which they seem to have withdrawn there is no doubt that bustling activity will return and the nation will pull itself out of its slump. Dont let these hard times get you down things will always pick up just keep faith in yourself and in your nation.

As if to answer the sudden slow down strange events have begun to unfold on Toketis eastern shore. The sudden and unexplained disappearance of the Imperial palace, located in Port of Sails, and the ex-emperor Liam conToketi, has sent rumors flying across the realms. Speculation runs rampant as citizens try to learn what happened by listening to reports and attempting to piece together what few clues exist. Further rumors that Lords Andreas, Bayen and Nargoth are leading investigations into the incident have not yet been confirmed. However based on the circumstances and lack of information they would be the most likely to seek the truth of what has happened. We can only hope for the safety of not only our realm but the entire nation that whoever is looking for answers is able to find out the truth of what has happened.

The Municipality and the Principality of Seborga have launched the 4th edition of the Historical Literary Competition. This year's competition consists of an essay, abridged or original, in Italian or French, regarding historical figures related to the ecclesiastical history of any religion.

The scripts need to be submitted in typed or printed format and sent to the Biblioteca Storica di Seborga, 18012 Seborga, not later than the 10th October 2008.

The jury will examine all the entries and only three works will be selected as finalists.

The works submitted will not be returned but will be kept in the Library and made available to the public.

The prize giving ceremony will take place in Seborga on the 11th November, starting at 15:00.

A Brave New World

With the offical institution of the Military branch of the CITRA system, the micronational world we once knew has begun to quickly evolve. Already comanders both at home and abroad have begun to pull together their military might. On the home front so called "Standing armies" which are supposedly no more than defensive forces though i wouldn't wager my scaly rear on that have begun to spring up all over the place. So far the most extravegant and heavily equipted ground is that of none other than our King Bayen ronToketi. His force is stuffed full of Elite magic users and items which took great skill and cunning to conceive and create. Other rumors abound of events transpiring across the boarder in the nation of Novatainia. It has been said that at the MANA Academy there that an army of mages has begun work constructing a complete army of Golems.

There are even reports of activity south west near the city of Barax and north around the Port Jookoo area. In fact of the areas so far involved in this CITRA agreement the only group to show no movement to readyness is the militaristic nation of Chelkran In the south eastern isles hidden in the depths of the Chelkran desert. This reporter in perticular finds it slightly disconcerting that as of this time no movement has been made by the lord of this land nor any of our city barons to ready a defensive force to protect our land.

Yet in my humble opinion things do not yet appear very troublesome, No armies have begun to march the drums of war have remained to this point quiet. However the future is a winding path and no matter how hard we try to look down we can see only to the next turn and anything could be waiting beyond it.

Worries Abroad

One hopes beyond all hope that when planning for the safety of ones own people that they need worry only about enemies abroad. That those nations close to home are indeed the friends they make themselves out to be. that you need not worry about their internal affairs or members of your population currently within their boarders. Unfortunately the recent events in Spartanistan have brought a great amount of unease to members of neighboring Toketi. Rumors of death squads and mass executions have begun to run rampant. Our Yashere Demon of the North who was in Spartanistan at the time in question has refused to comment on the situation; however he has ordered an increase in military alertness and the early activation of a torpedo buoy picket line near the realms major costal cities. From what I have been able to ascertain there has yet to be a deployment of any significant amount of military personnel but things can evolve rapidly.

There are further rumors that the entire Spartani population has picked up and left. Both Ships and planes have been reported to have been seen leaving the island nation.

The situation is further complicated by the recent assimilation of the Spartani islands by Ostshon, Yashere Sir Gerk. Surely if the claims of mass murder were true then a treaty offering safe haven such as this would not exist. Perhaps Sir Gerk either doesnt know what is going on in Spartanistan or understands that the situation is not as it is rumored to be.

This reporter knows that he is indeed disheartened by the recent rumors, but still hopes for the whole situation to merely be getting blown out of proportion. But if things are as bad as they appear I trust that our leaders will quickly get the situation under control and take the necessary action to get us past these hard times.

The Cult of Personality: With a Crappy Personality

Recently, this reporter traveled to the Soviet Republic of Cheklyniask(SRC). There I intended to conduct an interview with the President of the nation concerning some less than joyful events that have transpired recently.

For those of you who cannot tell, the Soviet Republic of Cheklyniask is communist, and according to their forums, they take it very seriously. The original conflict between this nation and Gralus lies in threats made about a nuclear weapons program being run in the SRC. Then according to the President of SRC, one of the allied nations of Gralus threatened an ally of the SRC. They took this supposed threat personally and thus threatened to attack our ally, Amokolia. The following comment was made by President Vladimir when the President of Gralus, Andreas the Wise, made a diplomatic visit concerning the issue.

As far as we were aware Amokolia had threatened a nation we feel quite close to
and we are not happy with the situation surronding that. On the second note I
have documents from a MSN conversation with their leader threatening myself and
Cheklyniask which is not on. Also it is none of your business whether we
operate a nucular program here we are not under a diplomatic treaty and do not
wish to discuss private matters with nations that do not matter to us. If
Amokolia continue to threaten us we will attack if they leave us alone we will
say no more about the matter. I am generally not happy with you coming here and
demanding information from us regarding our home affairs.

A brief, yet tension ridden, argument ensued in which the President of Gralus left in a huff, obviously frustrated by the arrogance of President Vladimir.

When this reporter arrived in order to get an interview, I found the desolate country somewhat deserted. There were some stragglers, but the mass of the country had just wasted away. I did happen to see President Vladimir, but when I tried to approach him, he fled to a waiting limo and sped away. He obviously declined my request for an interview.

So, before I left, I did some exploring over the country and found some shocking conditions. There is a secret police called the Ymen, and they are putting down any opponents of Vladimir with extreme prejudice. There is also a hall where the points of communism are listed. This reporter is proud to say that he could not stay awake through reading all of them, so he left.

This nation is obviously moving backwards in all ways possible, politically, by threatening micronations much bigger and more powerful than itself; socially, women, according to Vladimir have no rights in the country; and intelligence, Vladimir was offered many chances at peace, not once did he accept.

As of now, the SRC is quite quiet with minimal activity. This reporter is asking all citizens to remain somewhat alert to the situation, but not to get overexcited. After all, its only a communist dictator with a small desolate country, that "claims" to have a nuclear program.

The Principality of Seborga in the Guide Vert 2008!

We are very happy to learn that the famous tourist guidebook Guide Vert talked about the Principality of Seborga in its edition of Northern Italy 2008 (see photo).

Seborga is the subject of a small insert page 161. It is also represented on a map page 162 and quoted in the main index page 393. This is the complete text of this short article which has been published:

The Principality of Seborga: Because of a bureaucratic mistake, the small Principality (11kms east of Bordighera) had never been officially registered among the properties of the House of Savoy. In the 60s, its inhabitants began to claim their independence, they elected a prince and they started to strike coins and to edit stamps. To know more about it go to www.seborga.com."

On the one hand, we are pleased of the fact that the Michelin guide has also decided to recognize and to admit the existence of the Principality of Seborga, but on the other hand, we are surprised by the inaccuracy and the restricted content of this article.

The Authorities of Seborga also seem to share this point of view. Thats the reason why they have decided to write the Guide Vert in order to ask the editors to correct the six errors or inaccuracies found in the article:

There is no bureaucratic error: Seborga has never been the property of the House of Savoy but its protectorate (which explains its non-annexation by the Kingdom of Piemont-Sardinia renamed Kingdom of Italy in 1861, the rights and duties of which were inherited by the Italian Republic in International Law.)

The Principality of Seborga is located in the North-North East of Bordighera, at about 7kms as the crow flies and at about 10kms by car.

The claim for independence is more precisely the taking back of its sovereignty, which has never stopped existing in spite of its Italian civil administration.

The Principality of Seborga has been an elective Monarchy since the Early Middle Ages and the taking back of its sovereignty has logically led to the election of a new Prince: it mustnt be considered as an innovation.

The currency of Seborga, the Luigino, started to be struck around 1630; so, it didnt start in the 1960s, it only restarted (in 1995).

We will pay attention to the future editions of the Guide Vert and we hope that the information given on Seborga will be more precise and true.

Spartistani Aggression

This evening, I decided to visit Spartistan, as I occasionally do, to check up on activity and other things for one of our protectorate nations. I stepped off the unmarked helicopter I had been traveling in, and as soon as I was recognized, Spartistani border guards immediately fired upon me. I took no fatal wounds and managed to escape.

I quickly assembled a team of my best agents and led them back into Spartistan on a covert mission to see what was going on, using a bit of magic to aid in transport and disguise. We discovered a government change was going on, with King Blademaster dissolving the monarchy in favor of a military order. All foreigners were being slaughtered on the spot. We returned quickly to Toketi with the news.

(OOC: In reality, I went to the Spartistan forums to see what was going on, and found my IP banned. I bypassed the ban and took a look to see what was going on, and read about the sudden genocide and banning of foreign officials.)

I returned to speak with my Knights in the Tokian Army. We have begun to mobilize our forces to rescue any surviving foreigners left in Spartistan. I have contacted Blademaster about a possible peaceful settlement because I am duty bound to do so, but I have my doubts that it will be effective...

Another Year to Cherish

The old Tokidokian Post's Chief Correspondent, Cathbhadh, was invited back to do the article on Toketi's second birthday. Here he is, reporting:

Celebrations occurred all over the micronation of Toketi yesterday as the citizens celebrated the second year since the nations founding by Liam conToketi I. Everyone was extremely excited for this day and many preparations were made in all parts of the land. The biggest of celebrations obviously occurred in Rielrar, where parades and the like were held throughout the day, ending with a speech by his majesty Bayen ronToketi, followed by the second annual running of the squirrels. A great spectacle of aerial feats was performed by the legion of dragon riders across the skies over Estshon Paran. The rabble citizens of Port Jookoo were to be seen mobbing through the streets, then suddenly all locked themselves indoors when they heard more noises coming from Lord Cathbhadh's fortress. A most wondrous and beautiful array of fireworks was displayed in the evening over the city of Grot Kesh. There was marvelous times and entertainment to be had by all well into the night across the whole country, including even some Novatainians who were glad to share in the celebrations. A ambassadorial party of Chelkrans even arrived for the final celebrations, regretting to inform the king that His Executorness would not be arriving as he was busy ranting and planning for the Shirerithians, there was however a humongous earthquake originating from that vicinity later that night, reaching well up on the Richter scale and lasting for several hours. We can only assume that the client state had its own special way of celebrating its motherland's birthday. On a more humorous note, Jack Norrington attempted to steal the national birthday cake, but tripped on a stray squirrel and fell into the cake instead. This incident was only discovered later when, in a very painful mess, he had to be extracted from a Chelkran's mouth once the cake began to be devoured. He is currently in the Rielrar Community Hospital, in stable condition. The last of the celebrations took place 42 hours after they had begun where Bayen made one final speech wishing everyone a grand new year to come, then everyone went home after hearing the encore performance of Cathbhadh's music, after which he jetpacked off to return to New Demesos to accompany Andreas, Vilhelm, and North. The Royal Janitorial Squad were unhappily left to clean up after the huge mess.

Although honestly, it wouldn't hurt him to fact and spell check his writing, because that just means more work for the editor... ;)

A new reality in football is making its way in the landscape of the Republic of Moldova: an Italian-Moldovan team.

For the Republic of the former Soviet Union this is an absolute novelty: from this month the small municipality of Mihailovca can boast its own football team: the Mihailovca Seborga-2005 (see photo).
The idea came from the Seborga in the World Association of the Principality of Seborga which - after having created a football field in the village with the collaboration of the local youth and the volunteers of the emergency service of Seborga-Vallebona - launched this new challenge.
The president of the soccer team is a young Moldovan lady: Lilia Lebada, living in Rome and with dual nationality, who was appointed - according to the association - "not only for her sensitivity to the political plans for the youth of her country, but for her experience in football.
The vice President is Alberto Cengarle, creator and administrator of the Italian-Moldovan discussion forum: Ambasada.it, who stressed that the main objective of the project is to bring families and particularly children to love this sport, through the matches the boys will play each week.
Mihailovca-Seborga 2005 team will wear the blue colours, like the colours of the Principality of Seborga and will have as sponsor various Italian and Moldovan firms and companies.
From September the team will play in the national championships, but the newborn team has clear programs and aims: "to Improve the ground of the football field, build showers, changing rooms and stands, build an illumination system, as well as reaching the top positions of the youth league explained the chairman Lilia Lebada, who added that the league is already thinking about the creation of a team of women players.

Grallund Training Facility

Between the gem like cities of Damev and Yaskhona lie the Great Barrens, the desolate wasteland that was once the mighty Grallund forest. The Barrens stretch for many kilometers, nothing grows in the barrens, nothing has for many centuries. The terrain is rough and travel across is often difficult. This unique area does serve one important purpose however; it has proven to be an excellent training ground for military forces. The barrens are located far enough from civilization to avoid disturbing the peace and are large enough to conduct full scale war games. Construction is underway of multiple full scale military bases to serve as both outposts and bases of operation during the planned simulations and exercises. Already the first shock division has deployed to the barrens to conduct training and tactical drills, they have practiced aerial insertions and securing a mock village that was set up. Later this month the first and second armored as well as the fifth infantry and third support are scheduled to arrive and begin joint training exercises. There is even rumor that a contingent of the Chelkran Elite Guard have set up an outpost to drill in the Barrens with Norths shock troops.

Moving into the Future while Preserving the Past

For Centuries the ruins of Damev have stood as nothing more than that, ruins. An abstract reminder of ages long past and a race long extinct. Yet it does not do well to swell in the past and the time to move on is at hand.

A recent influx of new life and culture to the area has lead to the decision to once more put Damev on the map. The city will be rebuilt, though a bit further north to preserve the ruins. The ruins will stand as they have before, as a reminder of ages past and things not to be forgotten. The new city shall be built in the image of the old, if adjusted a bit for changing building techniques and new innovations.

Rumors have begun to seep out and spread with regards to the construction of a grand palace but looking at the site of construction, I see nothing to support these wild claims. I will however be the first to admit that one can never be sure in a nation such as Toketi this supposed palace may just spring up out of the ground at random. In a land with magic we can never be sure. We do know though that attempts are being made to replicate the architecture and style of the city which was lost so long ago.

I will continue to watch and report on the construction efforts on the grounds which have become known as Damev proper.

Reaching Out

For nearly 8000 years there has been an Academy of Magic located in the mountains of Taonas. For almost 6000 years Draconians have been the dominant species of the lands. Yet not since they were a young race have Draconians been permitted to study at the academy in large numbers.

The original Draconians were said to have once been of the Malrek race. It is said the Malrek came and built the academy then their entire people were reduced to wraiths. Then after centuries of searching for a new life they found a way to start anew, using powerful magics to change their form the disembodied Malrek were able to achieve a second chance at life. They changed themselves into many creatures but could not retake their original form. The most intelligent and cunning race that came about were Draconians. Since the time when the first Malrek changed their form the Draconian race has become self sufficient.

The lack of Draconian students at the academy is most often blamed on the previous head of the academy, a wraith known as Drathir, Drathir however was recently slain by a demonic artifact and is obviously no longer the head of the academy. Yet while he was in charge he allowed only the first generation of Draconians to study within his academy walls, only select individuals from subsequent generations were trained often to be used to control the rest of the Draconian population. Due to this multi-millennia long practice there are few draconian mages currently dedicated to academies of magic, though some still learn to use their innate gifts on their own.

However with Lord Drathirs death and the subsequent appointment of Nargoth as Lord of Magic this practice is likely to end. Nargoth better known as Demon of the North has made it clear he wishes to train a much greater number of Draconians and help the race achieve what he sees as its great potential. A simple change of one man however is not enough to sway the views of an entire race many Draconians are still weary of trickery or deceit though others have jumped at the opportunity to learn the Arcane arts.

Although my sources tell me the Lord of the Academy Nargoth is still discussing specific terms and arrangements with Sobek1 it indeed looks as though the academy doors may finally be fully opened to the Draconian People.

1 Sobek is the leader of the Brothers of the Black Wind this is the largest and most powerful Draconian group currently in existence. The group dwarfs even those draconian groups which have strong ties and support from the Academy itself.

Guild War Over! From the Ashes, A New Guild is Born

For nearly a month, a war has raged between the rival guilds of Toketi. For those of you who don't know much about the guild system, it was founded by the past ruler Liam who envisioned wars fought between guilds for honor, glory, and a seat in the Congress of Lords. Since then with the regression to feudalism under Bayen ronToketi, the rewards of the guild wars have grown feudal as well. The winning gulid gets to take control of a city that they controlled during the war. But enough about the history of the guild system, which is expansive and lets talk about the here and now.

The three weeks that constituted this guild war were packed full of strategic maneuvers and such from decoy's, to resurrections, to pure strategic brilliance. However, this being the second guildwar, some expected better. One such person who expected better was none other than Bayen ronToketi who in a brief interview stated:

-"The strategy in WG2 wasn't all that it could be. Huge forces holing themselves up and sniping at each other with little strike forces basically summerizes the battles."

Finally, at the conclusion of the war, the favored guild Conlegium ab Agnosco Ex Arte(CAA) came out on top with a resounding victory over the other guilds. In the end they opted to take feudal control over the city of Duvyash, located in Southeastern Toketi.

Another point to be made about the war was what happened in the shadows of the aftermath. The Poisoned Brotherhood(PBR) who took heavy losses in the war, illusion or not, was abrubtly disbanded and the guild, Brotherhood in Arms(BIA) rose from the ashes of the old guild. Sir Gerk ronAnaglea, the guildmaster of the Poisoned Brotherhood Resurrected stated during an interview in front of the underconstruction guild hall:

-"I was considering a guild change since about a month or so after I assumed the position of the Guildmaster because it became extremely hard then to keep the guild running, as you can assume. With the chaos the matter slipped into the back of my mind until Atticus brought it to my attention once again. It was really his influence that brought me to that action. and, thinking back, his main reason was because he didn't like the name[PBR]. S o i asked Blademaster about it, and he was fine with it, so, after the war, I made it official."

Anybody who compares the PBR with the BIA will see that there is a drastic difference between the two. The old members of the PBR hope to put the time in that guild behind them as they press on to bigger and better things. The morals of the BIA are almost the exact opposite of those of the PBR.

-Guild Symbol: Clenched Fist
-Signet: Yet to be designed

The new guild hall will be located in East and West Brotherhood in Spartistan. Here the new Guild Hall is currently under construction under the direction of Atticus, the guild scribe.

The next guild war is not for three months, so there is plenty of time for this fledgling guild to gain its footing.

Somewhere around 17 score and 1 year ago, our founding fathers brought forth onto the Apollonian Continent a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the idea that ALL CHEESE IS CREATED EQUAL. Since then, Toketi has dropped the whole liberty thing and gone over to a complete monarchy, and the cheese now exists as a mere interactive television show, BUT THE SPIRIT OF TOKETI REMAINS.

Now, in less than two weeks, Toketi will turn two years old. Our very own Princess Tsunade reports:

Draconian Emigration

The mysterious Sir Nargoth (also known as the "Demon of the North") rules in Furfein Tosha conMakain, a western Tokian Realm. Rumors of a dimension portal in the Damev Ruins, his capital, are common, and, as we have discovered, seem to be true. Nargoth himself reports:

In the conMakain province of western Toketi there has been a recent influx of emigrants. But these are not your standard emigrants from another part of Micras with the recent discovery of the portal in the city of Damev and establishment of an Academy of magic there occupants of this far off place have started to move to Toketi. What makes this story interesting is that these new arrivals are not simple humans seeking new opportunity they are of the draconic race known as draconians. These creatures are apparently rather intelligent and numerous in the lands beyond the portal but how they will react to living in a world dominated by humans is something only time can tell.

One student who spent some time in the Taonas magic academy had this to say.

"Though they (the draconains) are very gifted in the magic arts they seem to lack a certain amount of skill when dealing with other races. Well actually some of them did seem to get along with our exchange group quite well. Its probably just that dealing with other races is something they aren't used too as they are perhaps the only major race on that island."

Based on this and other views of people questioned this migration has the possibility to either greatly further the peoples of both Toketi and Taonas or to create bitter strife between the human and draconian populations which our now entering close proximity to each other.

Though Nargoth has stated that the Draconians will cause no trouble, only time will tell how these new citizens will integrate into society.

Necromancy War Resolved?

As those who follow Gralan magic already know, a conflict between the great mages has divided the Confederation for quite a time now. A Tokian dabbling in necromancy, Scorpiox Dolosus, aroused the anger of one of Toketi's founding members, Arnl (known to some as "Magic Matt"). Matt strongly disagreed with the use of such a so-called "Dark Art", and began preparing for war.

Aiding Arnl was the great Novatainian Andreas the Wise, the current senior Lord of Magic (not to mention President of Gralus). Andreas also found Necromancy morally lacking, and was prepared to battle. Fighting for Scorpiox was most of the Tokian population, not because they particularly fancied necromancy, but because they were "standing up for his right to practice it."

But some deft diplomacy may have averted this war before it began. Andreas proposed an agreement for a peaceful compromise, and both sides are optimistic, although certain clauses are still under discussion. The current form of the agreement is:

1. There will be no summoning of souls within Novatainia, or of Novatainian souls (permission or otherwise). The summoning of souls will be limited to civilian souls OR the souls of magic users from BONE. Under no circumstances will Necromancers, Demons, or other souls that could be a serious threat to Novatainia, be summoned unless permission is sought from the Council of Mages.
2.The animating of Dead Bodies and Skeletons may only be done if:
a. Permission is sought and granted from the original occupant. OR
b. The skeleton is over 500 years old.
3.Those who believe their family/friend's body has been unjustly animated or soul unjustly bound may bring their case to the normal courts (which are typically presided over by impartial non-magical judges).
4.No orbatted animated body or animated skeleton may set foot within Novatainia. No body/skeleton with a bound soul may set foot in Novatainia. The only exception to this is PCs and followers.
5. Justification will be given for the continued occupation of Arrtu in the Marrowstone.
6. MANA and others will not openly object to Necromancy where the Lord of the Academy allows it.
7. Should a necromancer break the terms of this agreement without prior approval, MANA reserves the right to destroy the particular in excess of the agreement.
8. Should MANA and others break the terms of this agreement without prior approval, the involved necromancers reserve the right to sue for defamation.

The main topic of discussion now is the generalization of the term "necromancer." Originally, the agreement held only "Scorpiox" to certain terms, but the two sides are going back and forth for the inclusion of all necromantic practitioners...

The Flowers Riviera and the Cote dAzur so famous for their centuries-old olive trees are also renowned for their briar or arboreous heather root, which in our dialect is called U Brugu plants which are used for making pipes. The Honorary Consulate of Seborga at Castellarano (a municipality in the Province of Reggio Emilia, Italy) keeps up its efforts to promote culture.
Its own mission, in fact, is to be an instrument for the development of learning and training, a meeting point of people and cultures.

WW2 Bomb in Seborga!

A bomb, from the second World War, discovered inside a wall of a house in Seborga few days ago was discharged on Wednesday morning, 5 March.

The town held its breath for at least an hour. To dislodge the bomb which had been there since it landed on 9 September 1944, a team of military experts (Engineers/Sappers) was called in from the Alpina Torinese Brigade. They took the shell to be detonated at Mount Nero, near the place called: Passo del Bandito.

The whole operation started just before 10 am. Beside the army, the Carabinieri (Italian Military Police) from Bordighera and members of the Emergency Services of Seborga-Vallebona and some volunteers from the local Red Cross were also called to guarantee the safety of the operation.

The shell had not exploded during a bombardment made by the Germans in the area which had sought to uncover a group of partisans whom they suspected were hiding in Seborga.
Indeed the five members belonging to the Resistance group were found and executed. Among them were also two young girls, 18 and 20 years of age.

That day six other people died: five members of a family from Perugia and an old person who did not stop at the alt command because he was deaf and was shot dead on the spot by a burst from a machine gun.

For the entire time, necessary for the removal of the shell, some houses were evacuated during the morning: in particular the house of Giuliano Fogliarino, owner of the flat in which the bomb was embedded in the wall for more than 60 years, and some houses near by.

Fortunately the children of the local school were not present on that day because they were on an excursion but to make the retrieval difficult, the shell was embedded in the wall at eight metres from the ground. A small mistake could have caused a disaster.

The knowledge of the experts made the dislodgement of the shell possible in just 15 minutes. Then the bomb was transported by the military in a isolated area called Passo del Bandito, on the mount Nero: a place considered ideal for such an operation as it is far away from houses and people. We are pleased to be informed that HH Prince Giorgio I of Seborga has bestowed of the noble title of Baron on Mr Andr Triquet, our Honorary Consul General in France who is also responsible for the Economic Relations with that country and Head of Cabinet of HH at the Department of Foreign Affairs.

After many years of dedicated service to the Principality and in particular to the Sovereign Order of the Knights of Saint Bernard of Chiaravalle as Master and Herald, Baron Triquet today receives a well deserved recognition for his tireless hard work.

At the same time, HH has promoted to the title of Baroness his affable wife, artist and painter Madame Batrice Tintignac. Our deepest congratulations and best wishes to Baron Triquet and his consort!

This new initiative promoted by our Prince, who this year celebrates 45 years of reign, opens the road for the creation of a Seborgan Nobility comprised of people of newly noble status as well as nobles already recognized by the Principality of Seborga for their titles conferred overseas, even by countries that no longer exist.

It means now that with the existence of Nobility there will be a Princely Court and the creation of the label: "Supplier of the Court of the Principality of Seborga" (similar to the endorsement used in commercial activities in UK: "By Appointment to Her Majesty the Queen"), on which HH has already issued a decree dated 5 July 2002.

The Principality of Seborga could also bestow noble titles on behalf of States or foreign Entities, for example the Holy See, if requested. The Holy See (that has maintained its tutelage on Seborga for about thousand years and guarantees its no-annexation by Italy) in the past it has conferred noble titles on people who merited but then ceased doing so on the basis of a pronouncement made by HH Paolo VI in 1964.

New Exhibition by Bea in Seborga

A new artistic exhibition was held on Tuesday 26 January at the seborgan restaurant Il Principe by the artist-painter Bea (Batrice Triquet-Tintignac).

The event was attended by HH Prince Giorgio I of Seborga, by the former Consul of United States in Paris S. Lo BOURNE, and by several personalities and artists lovers.

The artist who initially studied stilismo in Paris has now evolved a more figurative form of painting, expanding her interest on various subjects that benefit from her acute sense of chromatic style and are revealed as vivid and decorative. Her portraits and Venetian views are particularly valued. All our best wishes to our productive artist!

As with the MNN, feeds will be added by request of the owner only. The MNS aims to be an opt-in system rather than an opt-out, mostly because the staff is too lazy to check for new news sources every week. Requests can be handed to MNS@nafticon.net. Similarly, requests for removal from the MNS will be processed by the same address, and only those requests from the same email account as the original submitter of the feed will be honored, for security reasons.

Anything that is submitted will be displayed. There will be absolutely zero content filtering, monitoring, or other mechanism that keeps the news from getting to the populous. However, in an attempt to improve the quality of news sources, an accreditation system has been set up to single out those sources that best exemplify what a news source should be. In order to be considered an accredited source, it must meet most of the following requirements:

All news stories must contain at least three links to external sources backing up the views presented in the article. Three consecutive stories that violate this policy will result in the accreditation being revoked, but the news feed will remain on the website.
All articles must contain a by-line, including the author, place of publication, and a method of contacting the author, placed at the beginning of the article.
The feed in general must be considered by a majority of the administrators to be of a superior quality to the average micronational news source.
For radio shows, the show must NOT infringe upon the copyright of others, including both micronationalists and real life content creators. Clips of music less than 30 seconds in length will not be considered infringing, as they fall within the fair use policy of the United States.
Radio shows must also contain at least three pieces of news and two musical pieces. 30 second clips of music do not count. However, this requirement can be waived if an interview takes place on the show with someone featured in a news article elsewhere.

MNN scandal has micronations "taking sides"

The scandal that has everyone with a stake in micronationalism talking has started producing a galvanizing effect in Micras, with whole nations taking sides on the argument.

The rift started in Shireroth, Foghorn's favorite place of residence outside of Antica, where the population by and large seems to have taken Foghorn's side. Indications are that this decision was made not only because Foghorn is a local noble, but also because of the clear and concise manner in which the facts were presented to the population. However, Scott Alexander, retired micronationalist, urges the population to be cautious about going forward with any actions. The population in Shireroth seems on the verge of a complete boycott of the MNN, stemmed only by Scott's arguments, which seem to be dwindling as Foghorn presents more of his side of the story.

Antica as well has (as everyone expected) sided with Foghorn, again kept from any real action on the rising anti-MNN sentiments by Scott Alexander's counsel. How long this will keep the lid of Pandora's Box closed is unknown at this time. But clear and determined calls from within the government of Antica are already demanding that an impartial version of the MNN be established, and the current mncentre.net forum administration method be revised such that the actions of Liam Sinclair cannot happen in the future without the approval of multiple parties.

The only nation that seems to have decidedly galvanized in a manner that isn't with Foghorn is Babkha, which has taken a more neutral approach. Hesam Jahandar has made the official Babkhan position clear, stating that "...Babkha is a firm supporter of INS and Micronations.net." Their position was later clarified to mean that, according to what was posted in their forums, they would not actively engage in either side of the debate.

Other prominent micronationalists, such as Nathan Shepard of Natopia and Jacobus Loki mainly of Shireroth, have also loaned their support to Foghorn's cause.

Liam Sinclair was unable to be reached for comment due to the fact that the editorial staff has been banned from his website.

Mncenter.net administrator Liam Sinclair has taken the step of removing both KZFO and the Micronational Wulaptonachgat from the MNN feed, as well as banning Foghorn from even viewing the mncenter.net forums.

In response, Foghorn has published an open letter to Liam Sinclair through the Antican Liberator, offering the olive branch of peace, apologizing for any belligerent conduct, outlining the legal position that KZFO takes, and asking for the status quo to be returned "for the good of the hobby".

This spat with Foghorn, operator of this publication as well as KZFO Radio, started last week when Mr. Sinclair believed that KZFO was violating international copyright law and decided to remove KZFO from the MNN feed. Foghorn reacted in his patented knee-jerk manner, escalating the situation further by trying to explain the legality of his actions. His argument (bereft of the indecorous behavior displayed earlier this week) can be found in his open letter to Liam Sinclair.

No explanation has been offered for the banning of the Micronational Wulaptonachgat, which had not been expressedly targeted by Liam Sinclair for copyright violation.

News of this incident, specifically the removal of specific news sources from a supposedly open and objective news aggregator because of a personal grudge against the operator by Mr. Sinclair, administrator of said site and feed, has begun to spread throughout the sector. Shireroth, for example, is considering a variety of responses to the possibility that all micronational news be filtered by a single party, some more drastic than others. As of press time, no course of action has been decided upon.

What Foghorn intends to do should the olive branch fail is unclear, but according to sources, he's "working on it".

MNN discriminates against KZFO, Antica in general

In a recent post in the MNN forum, Liam Sinclair, head of the Micronational News Network, denied KZFO's request that it be re-added to the MNN feed based on its current and past compliance with United States Copyright laws. In response, Liam stated that "Micronations.net is based in Australia ... your quoting of US copyright court rulings mean nothing here", a statement that brings into question the entire Micronational media distribution system.

Liam's statement seems to imply that the only copyright law that matters in Micronational media is Australian law, which would require all Micronational radio and media organizations that want to be listed by the MNN to comply with Australian law, which differs greatly from Brittish and American law, and would essentially require all of the radio shows and most of the news sources to be de-listed from the MNN to bring it into compliance with its own rules.

Foghorn shot back, stating

"Well KZFO is based in the United States, and complies with the copyright laws in that country. In the international world of copyright, generally the rule is that as long as the company complies with the laws of the land that the server resides in, you're fine. See mp3.com, see thepiratebay.org, see any other number of examples.

I think that you just hate KZFO and Antica in general and want to keep us off the feed because nothing you've done in this area of Micronationalism is as good as we are, and you're jealous. Which is also why we haven't won a FNORD. Prove me wrong, I beg you."

With no end in sight for this conflict, the Wulaptonachgat will continue to bring you the best coverage possible.

Corso Fiorito 2008: The winner is the town of Taggia

The Olympic Games was the theme of this year new edition of Corso Fiorito, the flower festival that took place last Sunday 27 January at Sanremo.
This year the famous parade of floral floats was indeed a parade of sports stars.

Each of the 13 competing floral carriages represented an azzurro athlete (azzurro= Italian) who won at least one or more golden medals.

Seborga took part at the event with a floral float representing the sport of rowing (second photo below). On the carriage, suspended on a mat of flowers from local producers a tiger - the mascot of the Olympic Games of Seoul 1988 was mounted, as well as a huge dragon with a body made of the five Olympic rings in honor of China, the organizer of the Games.

On one side of the float the flower composition represented the sport of rowing that in Seoul's Games saw the triumph of Gianluca Farina in the category Men's Quadruple Sculls.

Again this year the Sanremo float, which does not participate in the competition, opened the parade with a floral composition representing the symbols of the Olympic Games: the five rings and the Olympic cauldron.

This years winner was the town of Taggia with the floral float representing the equestrian discipline at the Olympic Games of Tokyo in 1964 (first photo on top).
Second place went to the town of Imperia, with a floral composition dedicated to sailing and the Olympic Games of Sydney in 2000.

KZFO stirring up trouble... again

It seems that Foghorn has gone off the deep end again with his new publicity campaign advertising KZFO as "pirating" other radio shows and redistributing them (see last article). However, it seems that people over at the Micronational News Network didn't appreciate his attempt, and have removed KZFO from their aggregator.

Foghorn responded to the MNN's request that he cease infringing on the copyright of others with a statement (available in its entirety at the same location as the above link) saying that his feed was simply an aggregation of other feeds, making it not a content provider itself, but rather a method for content distribution. By making this argument, Foghorn has basically attempted to group KZFO with other companies like Internet Service Providers and Proxy Servers that are, at the moment, in a legal "gray area" when it comes to copyright infringement in the United States.

He continued his argument by referencing the fact that few, if any, micronational governments have any copyright laws at all. In an interview with him today, Foghorn stated that:

"It's interesting. We style ourselves as being sovereign states, make laws, conclude treaties, and interact as if we are a world unto ourselves. But the second anyone takes advantage of a lack of micronational legal precedent, everyone jumps back and clings to their real-world countries for support, demanding that their 'rights' be upheld, and ignoring the opportunity to better the community by working things out themselves. I mean, this is a golden opportunity for a YAMO to step in and start regulating micronational copyright."

KZFO claims that their feed in no way infringes on the copyright of others, micronational or otherwise, but does note that those currently claiming that their copyright has been infringed upon have stolen the music for their shows, as well as the sound effects, from copyrighted artists without so much as an attribution in the show, and notes the hypocrisy that such actions bring to light.

As of the writing of this article, KZFO is currently presenting two shows, Radio Free Woodstania and INS Sketch Show, both of which have full attribution in the feed descriptions. The producer notes that anyone who grabbed the feed early may have gotten the non-attributed version, as the program that updates the feed was still being updated to include the attribution at the time of airing, but the issue has since been resolved.

KZFO: How to?

KZFO is a Podcast. In simple terms, it's an internet radio show that you get by "subscribing" to an RSS or XML file, known as a "feed". Don't worry, you don't need to understand the terminology to get it to work. we use the podcast format because, unlike regular radio where if you miss the show during the day you can't rewind and hear it later, podcasts allow us to record something and send it to people to listen to at their leisure. It's more convenient that way.

To get started, all you need to do is follow the three main steps.

1. Get a podcatcher.

A podcatcher is a piece of software that sits on your computer and waits for the podcast to be updated. Every time a new episode comes out, it automatically downloads the latest episode and saves it for you to listen to later. Some music programs, like iTunes and Banshee, have podcatching software built in, and can do fancy things like automatically sync the new shows to your iPod or portable music player. Here's a short list of podcatchers:

WinAmp

2. Subscribe

In order to get your podcatcher to start looking for new episodes, you need to tell it where to look. Each podcast has its own RSS or XML feed that you'll need to enter into the program, and each program does it differently. RSSRadio and Juice are pretty self-explanatory, and iTunes is simply in the Advanced menu, subscribe to Podcast. Here's the URL you'll need to enter:

KZFO begins broadcasting pirated news shows: Radio Free Woodstania first target

In a typical showing of blatant disregard for copyright laws and standard distribution methods, KZFO has begun re-broadcasting the "pirated" (taken without permission from their website) news shows of other feeds prominently displayed on the MNN feed. When asked for a comment, Foghorn, current director and station manager stated:

Well, we figured that we don't have enough programming to keep the airwaves busy, and since the FNORDs are run by jackasses we don't really care about playing nice anymore. Plus, being in a nation without copyright laws has its perks. Either way, we figured it's more publicity for them, content for us, and everyone's happy. Except Ben Gray. But he doesn't count.

For it's first episode back, the as of yet unnamed show on KZFO posted a rather surprising rating of 67 listeners in the micronational world (verified via unique IP hits on the file in question, Odeo and other bots excluded), and was followed up by a rating of 59 on Newscast 5, the next show to hit the feed, showing a good percentage of subscribed listeners. KZFO is looking forward to continuing its usual steamroller-like approach to media distribution.

Seborgan Delegation at the Norwegian Diplomatic Reception

A significant joint reception organised by the Embassy of Norway in Belgium and the General Consulate of Norway in Luxembourg took place Thursday 8 November 2007 at the Bettembourg Castle, in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

More than 350 guests and personalities were present at the event; among them the Ambassador of Norway, H.E. J. Bernhardsen, the Consul General of Norway in Luxembourg, Dame Christine Doerner, several guests from Luxembourg and foreign Consuls who, for the occasion, were given the honour of the first rank in the reception hall.

Guest of honour at the event was the energetic Christine Doerner, well known and regarded in Luxembourg as Notary, Member of the Chamber of Deputy of the Christian Social Peoples Party for her commitment to the protection of women and Consul General of Norway.

The delegation of the Principality of Seborga, cordially invited, was represented by the Baron J.-Ph. Arnotte, Honorary Consul, and by G. Clemente, candidate Vice-Honorary Consul (in the photo: respectively on the left and on the right of Mrs Doerner) and were order of first and third rank.

The reception was held under the theme of the Centenary Anniversary of the death of the Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg, author of the famous play Peer Gynt, with a piano concert followed by a recital that the composer himself completed with the moving Solveig Song (Peer Gynt Suite I, Opus 46).

At a time when the international and constitutional status of Seborga has reached a particularly crucial point in the Italian Constitutional Court (see our article published on 25.04.07 titled: Sensational Verdict from an Italian Tribunal: The Italian State Has No Jurisdiction over Seborga!) we applaud the political far-sightedness of the Consul General of Norway who for several years has honoured us with her esteem.

Awarded the winners of this years Historical Library Competition

Once again, on Sunday 11 November, Piazza San Martino was the setting for the award ceremony of this years Historical Library Competition organized by the Municipality and the Principality of Seborga.
This year the three winners are: Mr. Pietro Guglielmi from Vallebona (Imperia, Italy) with a work titled Il Passato che Ritorna (The Return of the Past): a research based on old objects of various nature and periods found in and around Seborga.
The second winner is Mr. Riccardo Guglielmi, professor at Lund University (Sweden) with a research on toponymy in Vallebona and Seborga.
The third awarded is Mr. Alberto Castellini from Verona (Italy) with an essay regarding the relations between the Principality of Seborga and the Italian State.
Present at the award ceremony were the Mayor of Seborga, Mr. Franco Fogliarini, the curator of the Historical Library, Mr. Giorgio Pistone and HRH Prince Giorgio 1st escorted by around fifty Knights of the Order of the Holy Sepulcher.

The Secrets of the Olive Tree in 160 pages

Now available in the bookstores (in Italy) is the book written by Giorgio Pistone and Luigi Costanzo Oliva (alias Lu Cerin) titled: Lenga doju ulivi e olio, fatica e poesia (Olives Trees and Oil, Hard Work and Poetry).
Basically it is a mini encyclopaedia on the olive tree and published as part of the series known as I Quaderni del Principato di Seborga (Notes of the Principality of Seborga).
Its 160 pages include photos from the past and the present, maps and illustrations that will allow the reader to travel through the world of the olive tree, the different variety, the most famous and oldest trees in the territory, the mythology associated with this plant, without leaving aside an accurate historical digression in to the commercial expansion of the oil and the olives.
The publication also provides a precious dictionary of words in the ligurian dialect on the oil world and about, followed by a description of ancient oil-mills and how they operated, a collection of poems dedicated to the delicious golden nectar and a selection of historical scripts related to the subject.
The book ends with some useful suggestions for the kitchen with recipes and practical applications of the oil and olives.
It is definitely a great book for those who love history and local traditions and for those food lovers who really enjoy the regional cooking. (G. Giordano)
